Day 4: Another Busy Day For Obama

(AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)
As CBS chief White House correspondent Chip Reid reports, at his first White House meeting with congressional leaders, President Obama stressed the importance of bipartisan support for his economic stimulus plan, while acknowledging there's still a lot of work to do.

"I recognize that there are still some differences around the table and between the administration and members of Congress about particular details of the plan," said Mr. Obama.

On day four of his presidency, Mr. Obama also:

  • Ended a ban on federal funding for international organizations that do abortion counseling

  • Called three foreign leaders and the head of the U.N. -- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Saudi Arabian King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

  • Met with Treasury Secretary designee Timoth Geithner, had a closed meeting with his National Security Council, and taped his first weekly radio address.

For more on his Friday doings, watch Chip Reid's account.

Chip Reid, would you please refer to our new, intelligent, visionary president as PRESIDENT OBAMA, instead of MR. OBAMA? THIS IS A PRESIDENT THAT, IN FOUR SHORT DAYS, HAS EARNED OUR RESPECT.
