Clinton Likely To Be Confirmed Tomorrow, Not Today

(AP Photo/Gerald Herbert)
It appears that Hillary Clinton will not be confirmed as secretary of state today.

The Associated Press is reporting (UPDATE: And CBS News confirms) that Republican John Cornyn of Texas is planning to block a unanimous floor vote to confirm the former first lady later today. Their source is a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The spokesman, Jim Manley, predicted that there would be a roll call vote Wednesday, and that "she will receive overwhelming bipartisan support" when it takes place.

The Senate still plans to confirm other Obama Cabinet picks later today.

Senator Cornyn:

I think it would also be good to have a full and open debate upon the fairness - the legitimacy, even - of allowing states to tax natural gas and petroleum and any other mineral that is harvested within their boundaries, when those taxes in turn are passed on to the rest of America to pay by the refiners and distributors.

Seems to be in direct conflict with our traditional abhorrence of taxation without representation, to require the people of other states to support, say, a state without an individual income tax.

So what is the point of delaying this one extra day? Cornyn just looking to get his name in the media? What a waste of time.

John Cornyn is doing this for pure spite. Hate to admit it but he is our Senator also. In the 2008 election, Cornyn barely won reelection. He lost heavily in South and West Texas but got enough votes to squeal by in North and East Texas. If the Democrats run a good well financed candidate next time, he is toast.

I believe I have read and heard that the former President Clinton''s activities is to be monitored and such things that would be a conflict would cease. All but 1 senator has great confidence in her and she is to be confirmed tomorrow with a roll call vote. What a total waste of time to vote 1 by 1 because of 1 lone senator. Doesn''t the Senate have more important things to do? Isn''t it the time to work to get this country back on track? (Guess not-so here we go- same old , same old-POLITICS!!!!)

Maybe there is one politician that is not a member of the sheep herd? The wave going through DC right now doesn''t seem to leave much wiggle room for individual thinking.

Hillary should have made the commitment for Bill to not accept foreign donations or payments any more while she is Secretary=y of State.

It is unacceptable that she said he would because ethics cleared it, What kind of *** is this?

Well what''s the point in delaying something that will happen the following day. Maybe the Senator in question wants his time in the limelight too. If only 1 objects to Clinton, sounds a little wasteful of everyone''s time, when the roll call vote will confirm her tomorrow instead of today. Ok the senator has his spotlight, now move it on.
