Palin To Stump For Chambliss On Eve Of Runoff

The Georgia senate runoff has featured appearances by political heavyweights from both sides of the aisle (even President-elect Obama cut a radio ad for Democrat Jim Martin). Now, the big GOP gun is coming out as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is set to join incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss for a series of rallies across the state next Monday, a day before the runoff election.

That Palin will be in the state so close to the vote is a statement about her new role in the party. Because runoff elections tends to be “base” elections, Chambliss is looking to energize conservatives in the state for the runoff and Palin’s presence is more evidence of her appeal to them. Other potential 2012 presidential candidates like Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani either have or plan to appear for Chambliss but Palin appears to be getting the job as the closer.

The race could give Democrats a 60-seat majority in the Senate depending on what happens in the Minnesota recount and saving the seat would be a rare victory for the GOP in the current environment. Palin could certainly get some credit as well. But Democrats retain hopes for taking the seat, as the Politico reports.

This is the kind of arrogance I really hate. You don''t understand because you don''t want to. If you were truly ''educated'' you''d be able to see shades of grey, not just black and white. From someone who has lived in small and large cities and grew up in a very rural area, I can assure you that you are not so difficult to understand. You may choose a simple life (and certainly a simple life view), but you don ''t get off the hook from someone pressing you on your opinions just by saying "You don''t understand."

Shockolit: If you really grew up in rural Georgia or anywhere else in rural America you would not be so shocked about a turkey being killed. Exactly where do you think the frozen turkeys in the stores came from? They were once live birds on a farm! If you really grew up in rural Georgia you would know that butchering animals is part of farm life just as much as seeing them hatch or be born. Sarah Palin is a country girl. She knows what happens on a farm even though they don''t have many farms in Alaska. I don''t think she really enjoys seeing an animal killed but she''s not shocked by it. I am the same way.

How do they know when they have killed enough wolves? What makes anyone think that they even care?

The woman likes to kill. You can see it in her psychological profile. Why do you think the turkey slaughtering in the background went right over her head? She actually called the whole thing fun.

Since she wants to come to Georgia, let her come and kill a few rattlesnakes instead of campaigning for one.

I do understand the rural and small town people in Georgia. I grew up that way. I understand you people better than you understand yourselves, and so do the ultra-wealthy MEN running the Republican party. That is why all y''all are so easily manipulated.

we country people will survive because we can hunt and fish and we know how to skin, clean, and cook what we bring home!

Funny, I haven''t heard of anyone eating Polar bear, but they are nearing extinction. Is that why Palin wants them removed from the protected species list? And the random slaughter of wolves from helicopters is just plain sick: over 800 so far this year, not counting the orphaned pups that are sure to die, or the wounded left to die in agony. And who is eating the wall trophies of bear heads or the bear rugs like the ones in Palin''s office.

You fail to recognise that human beings are also part of the animal world. And while it is important to be aware of the need for a food supply for human presumption, this need is not met by the random shootings that result in death but provide nothing for humans to eat. And lastly, I don''t think anyone is skinning, cleaning and cooking Polar bears in order to eat.

Unbelievable that the good people of Georgia have to listen to a 5 star idiot at this time. The Republicians could not stoop lower than to support this charade. If she can get votes for them then they deserve Mr. Chambliss. The State of Georgia should be held accountable by the Senate in D.C. if they blow their chance to have some positive input into how this country conducts it''s affairs. Listening to devisive idiots, promoting unrest, and voting like robots should not be rewarded.

With both losers, McCain and Palin now campaigning for Chambliss, that should certainly guarantee a LOSS for him as well. Furthermore, he is using images of 9/11 to promote FEAR as the base for the republican brand of campaigning. That should also keep him from winning if the people of Georgia are using their brains to think. If the GOP does not get rid of their fear mongering, it''s hard to see how anyone with a brain could continue to stand with them. Americans are sick to death of FEAR based politics.

If the recession gets really bad and turns into a depression we country people will survive because we can hunt and fish and we know how to skin, clean, and cook what we bring home!

And about the sanctity of life that Sarah talks about, she is talking about human beings not animals. She is like me and most other normal thinking people, she puts people and our welfare before animals!

I''m sorry that both you and Sarah Palin relegate animals to such a low stature. Palin voted to remove the Polar bear from the endangered species list. I seriously doubt she can clam they make any threat to the human food chain. They generally avoid humans whenever possible. And leaving wounded animals to writhe in pain is intolerable. To kill little pups that do not pose a threat to anyone is beyond comprehension. But the fact that Ms Palin takes such satisfaction in killing is repugnant to the sensibilities of most people. When she kills for trophies to mount on her walls is sickening. I think she should consult her witch doctor about the error of her ways. I find her ignorant as well as repulsive, and I don''t know how you determined that her "sanctity of life" that she trumpets only applies to animals. Are you a mind reader? If so, I''m afraid she gives you very little to read.

farouk7: I know that they don''t raise much cattle in Alaska but they do in the lower 48 states and in Canada and wolves are a problem for them. They do, though, have moose, caribou, and elk. Since they don''t raise much cattle in Alaska and most of their beef is shipped in and very expensive, they do eat a lot of moose, caribou, and elk because it''s cheaper and more available. I''m not just talking about Sarah Palin either! I''m talking about Alaskans in general, including the people in the cities. Wolves also kill moose, caribou, and elk. The wolves take the food right out of their mouths in Alaska too! Therefore they have to keep the wolf population down if they want food on their plates! I don''t think they are trying to wipe out all of the wolves. After all wolves are beautiful animals and they have a place in our world and our eco system. However we can''t allow the wolf population to become too large anywhere in North America including Alaska. The human food supply has to come first. And about the sanctity of life that Sarah talks about, she is talking about human beings not animals. She is like me and most other normal thinking people, she puts people and our welfare before animals!

Ranchers battle wolves, coyotes, snakes, disease and the weather just to raise their cattle and get them to market and eventually to your plate. You should think about that the next time you sit down to a steak dinner.

An insignificant number of cattle are raised in Alaska. There are only 100 grazing days because of the weather. Most of the cows in Alaska are feral; most of the cows raised for beef are raised in the Aleutian and Kodiak islands, nowhere near population centers. And, in my mind, the slaughter of so many wolves, bears and other animals is not justified by the small number of cattle brought to market.

As for me sitting down to a steak dinner, it''s a sacrifice I''d be willing to make.

Again, so much for the sanctity of life that Palin trumpets so loudly. To me, shooting animals, whatever breed, and leaving many wounded and dying is not my idea of "sanctity of life" this woman has talked about. I''m sure that bear rug in her office was not an example of a threat to farmers, more of a trophy for her boundless ego than anything else.

Sarah has successfully defined the base of the republican party. Those who are somewhat informed and those who have given even a small effort to educating themselves are moving away from the party. Soon, the republican party will be comprised ''''completely'''' of the billionaires who control it and the trailer dwelling gun-totin'''' morons who actually believe that morality is synonymous with war.

Sad, isn''t it? I just went through some small towns in the US and saw "Palin ''12" bumper stickers. You''ve GOT to be kidding me.

Carlyonsue, there is a huge difference between a misstatement and proving in interview after interview that you are of only average intelligence... which is good enough for some but not who I want for President. I want someone smarter than I am.

Obama''s interviews were generally intelligent and thoughtful even on tough issues as compared to Palin''s muffing of even the most basic questions ... until and unless she had been briefed to death on them. This is NOT the fault of the McCain handlers because she has continued to exhibit these traits even in recent interviews. I do not understand why you will not just admit she''s not that bright and she certainly isn''t educated. I have lots of other issues with her, but even if I adored her, that would be enough not to vote for her.

farouk7: If you were a rancher you wouldn''t have so much pity for wolves. Wolves kill cattle. Everytime a wolf kills a cow it''s money out of that rancher''s wallet! And she''s only had 19 wolves killed by aerial shooters so far this month. I wonder if she''ll brag about that on the trail. Save all of God''s children but kill off the wolves and polar bears. I guess she thinks God made a mistake in creating them?

800 wolves killed from helicopter so far this year and additional 14 pups. Impossible to know how many were left wounded and dying. What a good feeling she must have. Good thing she believes in "Right to Life" or we''d really be in trouble.
