Fake New York Times Offers Liberal Wishlist

(CBS)
This morning, commuters in New York City were handed free copies of what appeared to be the New York Times. In fact, what they had been given was a surprisingly elaborate forgery: A fake version of the paper dated July 4th, 2009 that offers as its lead story "IRAQ WAR ENDS."

Other headlines in the paper, which is full of stories that, if true, would be cause for celebration among liberals, include "USA Patriot Act Repealed" and "National Health Insurance Act Passes"; the fake newspaper's slogan is "All the news we hope to print."

Here's a video from the creators of the fake newspaper explaining what they did. (Note: The video includes an interview in front of the real New York Times building that appears staged, and other interviews may be as well.) They claim 1.2 million papers were printed and that the planning took six months:

New York Times Special Edition Video News Release - Nov. 12, 2008 from H Schweppes on Vimeo.

The fake paper also has a Web site with all of its articles, which is here, though it has been loading slowly this morning. (That's a screengrab of the Web site above.) Gawker traces the effort to a "longtime liberal prank group" known as The Yes Men.

Apparently I am not the only one who believes Bush/Cheney should be arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned or shot for their crimes. Never in the history of our country (Nixon''s shenanagons included) has the executive branch been comprised of nothing but traitors. Our nation has almost been destroyed by these clowns, and it may not be reversable.

The last eight years has been unprecedented in the hisory of the U.S.. We had an attack on American soil that eclipsed the death toll at Pearl Harbor and had a liberal elcectorate, press, and some in congress blame the U.S, embolden the enemy, all while an all volunteer army was FIGHTING the war! Why? Because of POLITCIS! THe left needed a president in 08

Thank you very much NYT for giving this liberal newsletter some free press coverage. I would also like to request two adds to the liberals wish list: that Iraqi Vets Against the War suffer no further police suppressions, and that the Bush-Cheney sunnyside concentration camp at Guantanemo Bay be closed forever.

Other headlines would include:
Economy collapses as tax hikes take effect.
Treasury depleted by unchecked spending for services to illegals and non working poor.
Al Quiada claims responsibility for bombings. Says "as easy as 911"
Markets fall 40% as rich move money offshore to untaxed investments. Many claim better to sit on money than give it to the non working poor.
Party Time in the city as many spend their reparation checks on crack and craps.

It would be far better to learn from our recent past; the failed Bush administration, and move on to make things better. We need to ignore the bad will of Limbaugh, Hannaty, and their ilk, and make this country the fine democracy it was before George W. Bush stole the election of 2000.

Both due to midnight regulatory choices of the Bush administration failing to implement anti-money laundering provisions for hedge funds. Facilitating financial transfers into illegal tax havens and to terrorists supporting their operations.

''Liberal Wishlist''???

US voters have been demanding most of those headlines for years now - if not the entire world! The only ones holding back have been the ultra-rightwing traitors running the country into the ground...

Ah, the YESMEN. Great prank, don''t take it as anything other than that. All you''ll do is give them more power than they deserve. Do hope to see an ''Iraq War Over'' headline at some point. Would like to see an ''Osama bin Laden On Trial for Crimes Against Humanity'' and a ''Afghanistan Finally Gets Its S**T Together'' headline as much, if not more.

Absolutely brilliant prank. Brilliant! (You need to visit their website to fully understand the message: www.nytimes-se.com )

It brings desperately needed attention to the issues, like how our personal involvement is crucial if expect peace or any other "change" to happen.

It also reminds us of the outright failure and fraud of the corporate news outlets over the past 8 years. Instead of wishing for them to change, it''s time we fully embrace independent, honest news sources like TheRealNews.com and DemocracyNow.org .

Be sure to read THE FINE PRINT from the pranksters: www.nytimes-se.com/2009/07/04/the-fine-print/

Well, Tex, you can honk it all the way back to the Reagan administration! How in the world do you explain the total mess this country is in right now? None you mentioned is currently president. And I suppose your answer might be trickle down economics or deregulation etc etc. Oh yea, we really want another load of that ***!

Did I see a guy from the NYT on the video saying the NYT has been all over Bush for the last 8 years?
What in the world is he talking about? They drum up the call to war so much that they ended up apologizing to the public a couple of years later.
The best way to test the honesty of a newsoutlet is to see how well they inform the public on the Palestinian-Israeli issue. Anyone who has the balls to tell the truth of that situation without worrying about freaking AD REVENUES deserves all our respect.
The NYT as well as the vast majority of the MSM media have failed that test miserably and no there''s no better proof of it than the 41 years of Israeli occupation.
Imagine the US staying in Iraq for 41 years and blame the Iraqi resistance for it. I hope you get the point.

Hehehehe..

One thing: why is the ending of the Iraq war a "liberal" fantasy??

Surely people on both "sides" would like to see an end to a conflict in which Americans are being killed..
Of course, the military contractors wouldn''t make any more money but, that''s not as important as human life, right?

Right??

It seems that the organizers of this publication didn''t worry about conserving resources. They printed 1.2 million newspapers to make their point. The money could have been spent on feeding the hungry in a number of countries and quite a few trees would not have had to die.

I would expect that a few would read it in any depth, some would get a chuckle and the rest would add it to the mess that must be cleaned daily from the streets.

You guys have to be joking. Bush is our president. You would turn him over to our enemies. haha Their is name for people like you... more than one name.

Posted by PatGu at 11:03 PM : Nov 12, 2008

I will add my name to the list of people being called names because they hope that genocide and treason charges will be brought against Bush and Cheney for lying us into a war for profit, that by all accounts nearly a million humans are dead as a result.

And we would them over for trial not to our enemies but to established authorities that deal with such heinous acts.

notfooled,

Could you name these established authorities? Do any of the international ones consist of all democratic governments or is it okay for our chief executives to tried by someone from a country run by a dictator, religious zealout or someone who brutally murders the minorities within his own borders.
