Fla. Sheriff Plays The “Hussein” Card At Palin Event; Campaign Calls Remark “Inappropriate”

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott took the stage moments ago as one of the introductory speakers at a rally here for Sarah Palin. After delivering brief remarks in support of Palin, Sheriff Scott flipped the switch and used Barack Obama’s middle name in order to incite the crowd of thousands of people who have already gathered here.

“On Nov. 4, let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened,” the law enforcement officer said.

UPDATE: Palin campaign spokesperson Tracey Schmitt issued the following statement on Sherriff Scott’s remarks: “We do not condone this inappropriate rhetoric which distracts from the real questions of judgment, character, and experience that voters will base their decisions on this November.”

According to his web site, Scott became sheriff in 2005.

“People could say running for sheriff took either courage, ignorance, or a combination of both,” Scott said on the web site.

Many of the thousands of people in attendance roared their approval at Sheriff Scott’s dig at the Democratic nominee, whose Kenyan father shared the same exact name as his son.

After Sheriff Scott left the podium, local radio host Mandy Connell took the stage next. She too drew a loud ovation when she said Obama “hangs around with terrorists.”

Racism is rampant in the Lee County police force. Lots of traffic stops occur like "seat belt violations", "turn indicator" violations, "improper lane change" violations... any excuse possible to pull over black and Hispanic drivers. It's no surprise given the sheriff we have.
They are especially hard on tourists of the "wrong color" because they don't challenge their abuse in court. It's also got a revenue motivation to be sure...but there's racism in who they select to pay.

Will someon in the NObama camp explain to the rest of the world how using someone''s middle name is inappropriate behavior? Are you afraid of Barak Hussein Obama''s middle name? Are you ashamed of Barak Hussein Obama''s middle name? Or do you just not like Barak Hussein Obama''s middle name. But please - the thought police and the first amendement trashers - dont insult us with calling this "inappropriate behavior" to say someones middle name. Get a grip on yourself. You cannot and must not take away anyone''s right to the first amendment. Period. Final

This sheriff is going to be discipline and possibly fired for wearing his uniform while making a political endorsement with this infamatory statement. This clearly is unprofessional and illegal in the State of Florida. I hope the Lee County sheriff, Mike Scott, is fired and convicted for his reprehensible behavior.

I''m not concerned with the use of Obama''s middle name. I AM concerned when an on duty Sheriff, in uniform gets on stage and makes inflamatory statements about a candidate in a "FREE" election. I have an Obama bumper sticker on my car, am I safe in Lee county

How soon we forget, one of America''s finest friends was King Hussein of Jordan, who died of cancer in 1999.

Cattle, Just wanted to say I TOTALLY agree with you! I must say though.... I will not be voting Obama.... and frankly McCain isn''t much better, but I feel I have to pick one of them, so I will of course be voting McCain. I think it''s rather pathetic what is happening to the Sheriff... It *IS* indeed the man''s middle name, and AGAIN... NUFF SAID.

Cattle, Thank you for clarifying. I think your sarcasm was fine, it just went over my head.
As for the real question, how DID you know about me picking my nose?

Of course, if he meant nothing by using Obama''s middle name, I would expect him to refer to everyone with the inclusion of their middle name. The fact that he doesn''t just shows that he had an ulterior motive in mind.
