The "Joe Effect"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(DETROIT) Having Joe Biden around on the campaign trail for two days has had a noticeable effect on Barack Obama.

Obama's running mate seems to add a certain energy and feistiness to the usually serious candidate. For starters, Biden often comments on his wife’s appearance, often calling her “drop dead gorgeous,” etc. Well, today, as the Bidens and Michelle Obama sat by his side, Obama called Michelle “cute.”

“Michelle decided she wasn’t going to speak today. She just wanted to sit there and look cute,” Obama said quite possibly to his wife’s chagrin.

Although the crowd cheered and laughed, Michelle probably cringed because earlier this week she got in trouble for calling Palin “cute.”

“People shouldn’t make a decision based on “I like that guy” or you know “she’s cute,” Michelle told a small group of supporters.

Yesterday, Obama talked described Biden as a ladies' man and even called him “best dressed” – which the Republican National Committee was quite happy to pounce on.

Although he doesn’t need a lot of motivation to blast John McCain, Obama ratcheted up his rhetoric today. He joked that even a fifth grader would know that McCain will be an extension of the Bush Administration and that his response to the economy was “Katrina–like.”

“His first response to the greatest financial meltdown in generations was a Katrina-like response. Sort of stood there. Said the “fundamentals of the economy are strong,” Obama said. "That’s why he’s been shifting positions these last two weeks, looking for photo-ops, trying to figure out what to say and what to do.”

Biden’s more matter-of-fact manner of speaking and fiery tone were seen as a liability when Obama picked him as his running mate. But, 37 days after they stood together as running mates for the first time, it may very well be an asset, judging by Obama's performances when they're together.

Now the Joe effect? The "Bradley effect" came about from an election involving Bill
Bradley. Bradley is black. The press could not figure out why Bradley polled so well and did not live up to the poll results. It was believed that many voters that said that they would vote for Bradley did not actually vote for him. Second effect. The "Palin effect". Described as a "game changer".After her acceptance speech at the Republican Convention, John McCain got a shot in the arm.The "Palin effect" was short lived. When Conservatives came round they got a clear look at Palin. With zero foreign policy experience,a history of lies ,a record of vindictiveness, and more drama than a soap opera, her appeal started to fade. The G.O.P realized ,after a few appearances, that she was not capable of answering any real policy questions. They sequestered her and kept her from the media.I believe there is a third effect. We will call it "The Obama effect" is opposite of the "Bradley effect". I believe there are a very large number of people who say "I will not vote for Obama", that will. When they are talking at the office and among their friends. They do not wish to be chastised for voting for someone as different as Barack Obama. When it comes down to voting, they will enter the booth and vote the only way a thinking American can vote this year.

Obama and Biden are a great team. Joe is quick to show his wit and sense of humor which relates well to a somewhat more serious Barak. Their interplay is interesting to watch as they seem to feed off of one another and give the feeling they have been a team for longer than they actually have. They are a positive force as compared to McCain and Palin who give off an odd, negative vibe. Palin, who quite obviously is very nervous almost acts like a child who may get herself "in trouble" for saying the wrong thing. Why else is she so stuck on reading a pre-written script rather than answering questions? The republican team is falling apart on the world stage.

I''m amazed at how little press Biden is getting and how much Palin is. It''s too bad because it''s ripping the American public off and turning the election into a People''s magazine event. I had to do a search to find this article on Biden while multiple pictures of Palin are slathered all over the Internet media. I''m tired of corruption, the biased media, America''s superficiality, greed...

I don''t see how anyone can not see the momentum growing behind Obama/Biden. The financial meltdown, Palin, Debate #1, the general urge for change - all things are breaking against McCain/Palin with time running out.

I agree, for all those, who have brains - it is an easy answer - Go Obama.
McCain-paranoic and "No Brains Pit Bull" - are for those, who are similar to them.
Luckily we are not the cuntry of idiots, so we all have fun at the end.
I am just concern - Pit Bull would not be welcomed even in her small town and will be unemplyee...Good for her - at last will look at her family, which is forgotten in this election circus.
Good for us - we have job to do here for future.

If Barack/Joe are elected, we will be confronted with a new era of CHANGE. The building of an economy from bottom-up, as suggested by Barack, will be a process ofregulation where we should regulate, deregulation where we should deregulate. Same thing will go for universal healthcare, social security, foreign policy, national security, and many other issues. Removing lobyst influenced decision-making to a complete overhaul to serve the people will be the target. Joe will be a tremendous partner to help make all that happen with all dealings of congressional interactions on all these issues is the ultimate process of CHANGE. I think people, like me, will begin to think what a brilliant choice this was.
