Biden Responds To Criticism Of Comment On Taxes And Patriotism

Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden told CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric today that he is "sick and tired" of the "phoniness" in criticism of his comment that it is patriotic for Americans with high incomes to pay higher taxes.

"There's been quite a brouhaha about your comment about paying higher taxes for those making $250,000 a year and over is the patriotic thing to do," Couric said to Biden while riding on his campaign bus.

As Couric noted, GOP vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said in response to Biden's comment, "To the rest of America, that's not patriotism. Raising taxes is about killing jobs and hurting small businesses. And making things worse."

"How many small businessmen are making $1,400,000 a year average in the top 1 percent?" Biden responded. "Give me a break. I remind my friend John McCain what he said when Bush called for war and tax cuts he said, 'it is immoral, immoral to take a nation to war and not have anybody pay for it.'"

"I am so sick and tired of this phoniness," Biden continued. "The truth of the matter is that we are in trouble, and the people who do not need a new tax cut should be willing as patriotic Americans to understand the way to get this economy back up on their feet is to give middle class taxpayers a break. We take the tax cut they're getting and we give it to the middle class."

RIGHT ON JOE!!!

If republicans don''t want to pay taxes, they need to stay off our roads and highways, if their house catches fire they can put it out themselves and under no circumstances will they be allowed to dial 911.

People who are unwilling to pay their fair share are unpatriotic. No need to explain. Palin/McCain complain because they represent the anti-American neo-confererate base of the Bushevik Party.

Please stop with the distortions.Obama''s tax plan will provide more relief than McCain''s plan for the vast majority of Americans. It''s time the wealthiest gave back some of the money graciously willed them by Bush!

Palin failed her taxes.

She never reported the money she charged Alaskan taxpayers for staying in her own own.

That''s against the IRS laws.

Senator McCain, why is it ok for your VP to avoid paying her taxes?

URSODUMB,

Well....HHS under the bush administration has been trying to pass a bill which would set up the outlaw of the birth control bill. They state that sometimes the pill doesn''t work until after fertilization has taken place. Where does it end? Why is it okay to take old people off ventilators and let them die? Or kill innocent citizens in Iraq- yet not allow early term abortion and set up the outlaw of reliable methods(other than abstinence) of birth control. Are we to go into population overgrowth and then reward large families with 7,000 per dependent tax exemptions? Use your graphic images of scissors and blood...but this issue is far more complex than that.

Republicans refuse to pay their taxes because it%u2019s the Federal Treasury they continue to steal from and that would negate from their gain if they were to actually have to pay into the system.

PATRIOTISM: And what about the American owned companies that ship American''s jobs overseas? Under McCain''s plans they would still get their tax breaks. How patriotic are these Americans when they won''t even invest in our country! I agree, its time regular people get a break, and stop giving a break to the rich and the ones who don''t invest back into America.

it''s like any other structure.

if you don''t have a strong and wide base(average americans)of wealth at the bottom then it becomes top heavy and topples.

americans at the bottom and median income have to have largest portion of wealth to sustain themselves. we at this point are top heavy and are feeling the effects of the feeding frenzy that has been happening for years.

clovia77, who said the state is paying Bristol''s bills. you are crazy!! the press would have ate her up. Get this, they are taking RESPONSIBILITY for the actions as a family. So much of this is lost on dems, because 1) they want government to clean up their messes.2) only a dem would assume the "state" is footing the bill because somehow your actions always become the governments responsibility. Quit spreading lies, and make sure your facts are correct before spewing slander.

isn''t it interesting that sara palin is against extending health care to unwed pregnant teenagers. she does not think that the state should pay for pre natal care and all the important stuff for those innocent fetuses. she wants those kids to not have the same choice that her daughter had. she said she was proud that her daughter CHOSE to keep her baby and not have an abortion. free choice for the palins but not for you.... however Palin seems ok with having the state take care of AND PAY THE BILLS FOR HER unwed teenage daughter. not only is she a liar about her accomplishments, but a hypocrit to boot.

Amazing that the wealthy repos call it patriotic to send someone else''s kids to a war and lose their lives, but it isn''t patriotic for the rich to pay their fair share in taxes.

the idea that life begins at conception should be common sense. its stupid to think otherwise. besides, how many abortions involve removing a fetus at the moment of conception. none. usually these abortions involve the snipping off of little arms and legs. the driving of a pair of scissors into their little heads. this is simply insanity. history will remember these times. when the masses convinced themselves they were justified in killing their babies. their little helpless babies. you and your ilk are idiots.

URSODUMB....URSOJUDGEMENTAL. It appears in your post that you are refering to me as "brain dead & a jackarse." Am I wrong? I don''t really think you have the intelligence to comprehend what I said. Let me ask you, are you willing to take in an unwanted baby into your home and provide it with all the things it will need for the next 18 years? Are you willing to support s e x education in schools to help cut down on unwanted pregnancies? What penalty do you purpose to apply to a woman if she gets an illegal abortion? What penalty to the person who provides it? Do you think that only wealthy women should be able to get an abortion and have it show on her medical records as a D&C? Do you believe that only people on welfare get abortions. What source can you cite that says that life begins at conception? Are you opposed to birth control? What makes you the supreme authority on this subject? Inquiring minds want to know.

Don''''t feel too bad, if Obama becomes president, all the "little princesses" in unilateral health care can have taxpayer funded abortions, after years of state sponsored *** ed starting at the age of 5. He will distribute the wealth, to the point where there willbe no middle-class, no small businesses, because of the excess taxes and we can be happy to be socialists in our new economy.

**** I''d rather have socialism under Obama, rather than socialism under Amnesty Mccain and his amnesty for over 20 million illegal latinos! Why does everyone think that small business owners are the ones that are very wealthy? Small business owners are MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE! The upper one percent that is getting that huge tax cut is Walmart executives and oil companies, that is who is in the uppper one percent! If you care about small business owners than complain about walmart getting those rich tax cuts and killing mom and pop shops! The tax cuts for the upper one percent helps oil companies and walmart... I don''t see any small business there!

i agree with element. abortion helps keep the minority population in check and of course reduces the number of welfare babies. now if we could only off the parents. do you know how utterly brain dead you are you jackassss, abortion is murder. the murder of an unborn child. defenseless against the serial killer so-called doctor and its immoral mother. rethink your values idiot. try to believe in god. in right and wrong.
