New McCain Spot Argues Economy In Crisis

As the struggles of the financial markets top the news agenda today, the McCain campaign has released a new ad, "Crisis," that takes a dim view of the economy. The spot suggests only Republican presidential nominee McCain and running mate Sarah Palin can "fix" what has gone wrong on Wall Street. The campaign says the ad will air on national television.

"Our economy in crisis," says an announcer as the spot opens. "Only proven reformers John McCain and Sarah Palin can fix it. Tougher rules on Wall Street to protect your life savings. No special interest giveaways. Lower taxes to create new jobs. Offshore drilling to reduce gas prices. McCain - Palin. Leadership, experience, for the change we need."

The Obama campaign released a statement in response to the spot which reads in part, “John McCain has been in Washington for twenty-six years and hasn’t lifted a finger to reform the regulations that could’ve prevented this crisis. In fact, his campaign is run by some of the very same lobbyists who fought against these regulations and worked to put special interest giveaways in our federal budget."

On the stump today, McCain said that while the fundamentals of the economy are strong, these are "very, very difficult times."

If there''s one word that sums up the worst of John McCain, it''s this: reckless. Even most of his fellow Republican Senators think he''s "temperamentally unsuited to the presidency," although few will speak on the record for fear of reprisals if McCain somehow manages to eek out victory by tearing down Obama with lies and fear-mongering. Don''t be fooled. We can''t afford to put this hot-headed Bush sequel anywhere close to the White House. Mattcat25: I''ll add to your comment...next time folks see a commercial about "Picken''s Plan" and drilling and what-not, they should ask themselves, "Why now?" Why after sitting on their behinds for the past seven years, doing nothing to avoid the current energy crisis, are the top oil tycoons moving to do something now? I guess it hasn''t occured to people that these same folks (e.g., Pickens) will more likely than not sit on the boards of future energy corporations, you know, the wind, solar, etc. energy companies. What a scam!

Dear Senator McCain:
You dishonor yourself by approving recent media commercials filled with deception, half truths and outright lies. You are NOT a man of Presidential character.

The Republicans in the US Senate and their all of sudden VETO happy President George Bush have acted completely against every bill presented by the House of Representatives including increased benefits (that were cut by the previous congress) for our Veterans, and energy programs forcing OIL COMPANIES to commence operations on already approved drilling sites.

The Republicans have served as obstructionists rendering them the do nothing congress. Vote out the corruption and obstructionists from congress.

"The economy was doing fine when the Republicans controlled congress, it looks like it is time for the Republicans to control congress again so we can get the economy moving again."

WHAT A DUFUS! While the Republican Congress was in control with the Republican president the housing market was booming out of control due to fiscally incompetent loans and no proper oversight. Now EVERYBODY is paying for it! You are a MORON!

History is stranger than fiction.
"Today, Hoover said that while the fundamentals of the economy are strong, these are "very, very difficult times."

Hoover maintained the above, and believed it, up to the election of FDR.

NON-REFORMERS that were claimed and branded by President Bush are neither mavericks nor reformersa at all. ENOUGH! NON-REFORMERS who''s only reform will be to change the names on the President''s and Vice President''s office door. ENOUGH! NON-REFORMERS who''s platform still calls for less regulation and less government -- the same formula that created this mess. ENOUGH! Get the entire Republican Reform (name changes on doors) and other changes you need; VOTE DEMOCRATIC for President and Congress.

"I don''t really understand economics as much as I perhpas should", paraphrasing McBush some months ago. And that lack of comprehension shines through today when I hear him say today that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". What a LIAR - yes I said LIAR. He hasn''t done one earthly thing to correct the ills of our economy all these past years, so why should I believe him now when he says now that he can "fix" things.

For me to believe in his "change" message, I would have had to fall off the turnip truck, and glad to say, I did not!

Every word he utters is a LIE and he has ''trained'' his pet seal Palin to LIE as well as he does. But that is just not going to play for those of us who have been paying attention and who are losing our homes, our salaries have stagnated, and our medical costs have soared.

Does he think that just because we are almost as old as he is that we don''t recognize a LIAR when we see or hear one?

Whats wrong McSame? FLIP FLOPPING like a fish again? I thought the economy was fine? (according to you anyway)

And I must say, this is the first ad where he actually talks about himself instead of smearing Obama.

Flip-flop number 404 from McCain the weather vane. Two weeks ago he claimed "everything was fine" His continued assertions that the American people are stupid will be his downfall.

Can somebody please explain to me how Sarah Palin is going to fix this economy.
If McCain hasn''t made any progress in the last 26 years, it is clear he isn''t capable of it. So he must be depending on Palin to do it.
I would like to hear some specifics please.
Obama held an economic summit with 300 of the top economic minds in our country and then laid out a detailed and specific plan in an address to the nation.

What is McCain''s plan?????

A Republican economic philosphy of light or no regulation of our finacial markets and a lack of common sense are the main causes of the economic crisis that we are in. It seems that a lot of American''s don''t understand this. McCain can not be trusted to push policies that will solve the economic problems faced by the bottom 90% of American wage earners. Economic policy is his main weakness. This situation is frightening and sad because a lot of Americans obviously don''t get it.

The Republicans are acting as if someone else has driven all of us to this edge of the cliff. The Economic Policy of the Conservative Agenda is to seize the wealth of the masses and funnel it all into the pockets of specific private sector entities.

Vote for your own better interests Americans.

This is the sure sign of an addict, that more of the same drug is the cure for his ills.

McCain is a gambling addict. He is gambling with America''s future. His reckless appointment of Palin, when much more qualified people such as Condie Rice and Mitt Romney were available, proves this.

More of the same is not a solution.

Obama / Biden ''08!
