On "The View", McCain Weighs in On Lipstick, Roe v. Wade

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(NEW YORK) – Responding for the first time to the ads his campaign has put out about Barack Obama, John McCain told the ladies of “The View” today Obama should not have used the phrase “lipstick on a pig” in talking about McCain and Sarah Palin’s policies being no different than President Bush’s.

“Sen. Obama chooses his words very carefully,” McCain said. “He shouldn’t have said it.”

McCain said that the fault lay with Obama for the negative turn both campaigns have taken because they haven’t had more appearances together.

“If we had done what I asked Sen. Obama to do,” McCain said, referring to his proposal to hold joint town hall meetings, “I don’t think you’d see the tenor of this campaign.”

He was also asked if he would work to overturn Roe v. Wade. Perhaps because of the heavily female audience of "The View", McCain did not answer directly, but instead laid out his views on appointing judges.

“What we’d be doing is nominating justices to the Supreme Court and other courts who strictly interpret Constitution,” McCain said. “We would not impose a litmus test on any issue.”

But on his website, McCain is much more direct.

“John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench,” it reads. “Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states…however, the reversal of Roe v. Wade represents only one step in the long path toward ending abortion.”

People make out like the View was so harsh. If he can''t stand up to Barbara Walters, hows he going to answer REALLY tough questions? Jeez, McCain is a whiner.

Credit where credit is due:

The McCain team has been lying their pants off the whole time, and the media is (finally) starting to call them on it. Late-coming, but a welcome change. The Obama team has stretched the context here and there, in the way campaigns always have (not that I excuse that), but McCain/Palin%u2026 holy cow. So little comes out of their mouths that isn''t a gall durn LIE!!!

I challenge citizens to look at the entire footage of the Obama lipstick-pig event. You will see that the crowd apparently knew ahead what the intent was because they responded with a chant of "pit-bull, pit-bull," which was the exact reference made by Palin in her acceptance speech. The careful phrasing written for Obama was nothing more than a provision for plausible deniability. Take a look, folks. It''s clearly there for you to see. Love the Democrats.

I tuned in friday to watch the interview with John McCain, though admittedly, I rarely watch the show, except for when a good guest is on. I was really dissapointed in my friend Whoopi, who I knew was Dem biased, acting quite childish when she didn''t like the answers they were getting from McCain. I guess Whoopi and Joy forgot they were on camera when they were making snide faces at each other to some of McCain''s answers. You don''t have to like his answers, and are free to disagree - but at least act like adults, ladies. The show is "supposed" to be about different views, but as soon as a view that at least half of America shares comes up, the debate goes away, and the sniping takes over. It really says something when the token young repubican acts with more dignity and grace than the so-called seasoned professionals.

A lack of comprehension or did he just not know the answer to Barbara Walters'' question regarding Sarah as reformer. When John McCain was asked who Sarah would reform in Washington, he could not come up with a coherent answer. The answer he gave in fact, seemed to be to a question that he asked himself. No wonder Barbara was frustrated. No wonder she tried to restate the question several times. No wonder the Republicans are upset and once again flailing about, attempting to vilify those who would attempt to get a simple answer to a simple question. Shame on the Republicans.

mr2258: judging by the amount of free publicity McCain recieved from the embarrasingly unprofessional performance of the View''s "ladies," it was probably worth 15 minutes of his time.

The Bush doctrine, which flung open the doors to the catastrophe in Iraq

Posted by starleo14672

Star, you still work here? You mean the catastrophe in Iraq where we freed a population from the an evil dictator that would torture or kill them if they spoke out against him or the regime? Even kids were tortured, dismembered, our out right killed, had their brains blown out right in front of their parents for daring to say anything against him. Doesn''t sound like a catastrophe to me, sounds like a humanitarian deal to me. But then again I never did understand the mindset of cowardly heartless libs that feel all safe and secure sitting over here where there safe, then badmouthing others for their efforts. How brave.

ABC reviewers,EMILY FRIEDMAN and JENNIFER DUCK, wrote on ABC''s Web site:

"Teaching kids *** is not all right," said McCain. "[Obama] shouldn''t have said it. He chooses his words very carefully and this is a tough campaign."

McCain was replying, in fact, to Walters'' comment that McCain had used the "lipstick" analogy earlier in the campaign.

I also feel that Obama surely knew that using that phrase,so soon after the RNC, would cause a controversy . Either that or he''s not as clever as he would like to think.

What does it say about what McSame thinks about our country when he nominates a COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED person to be vice-president? Wasn''''t that his complaint about Obama?

Posted by noloyalisti

Unqualified in whose opinion, yours? What makes you think your an authority on whether she''s qualified or not? Please tell everyone so they will know where your coming from.

The religious right seems so caught up in hot-button issues they cannot see straight. Look---I do not believe in abortion---but I know that you cannot legislate against it. It would just create a black market. Do you really believe that criminalizing desperate women is the way to solve this problem----do you really believe that? Can''''t you see that we have to work on solving the problems---together---that create the perceived need for abortion.

Another cbs worker flooding the forums, go home. To the ridiculous statement about not being able to outlaw murder, in case you haven''t noticed it already is. There''s no black market as you call it, but it happens. The only difference is they feel it''s ok to murder as long as their not able to speak out or scream for help. Sipporting a woman''s right to kill defenseless children is horrendous, and if you vote people like Barack Hussein Obama into office that support and feel like a baby is a punishment, then your not a man, because that''s just a cowardly act. Even if you don''t physically do the actual killing, you have their blood on your hands just as if you did if you vote to empower someone to get in the position to make it happen. No around around it, you stick your head in the sand and pretend nobody can see you, or just keep denying the truth, but it''s still there.

I am sensing the Palin novelty has worn off. She demonstrated that she has no business being one-heartbeat away from the presidency. McSame is trying to win on being a POW 40 years ago and now revealing he is a liar and would do anything (Country First my arse) to get elected. The media, DEMs and even some Repubs are turned off with his campaign of lies and distractions. I am sensing the polls next week will start to reflect reality. Very bad news for McSame because then the debates start and he does not even belong on the same stage as Obama. I think Obama will win this election and it will not be as close as people are predicting.

I''m sure of it now, you are one of those paid workers, or you work for cbs, and everyone knows they are in Barack Hussein Obama''s corner, so not much different. Shouldn''t cbs let the forums be for the visitors? You all should stay out of the discussions, it isn''t very ethical, but what can you expect from a liberal news media outlet. Your really scared of Palin, or you wouldn''t be saying things that are so obviously incorrect. Her numbers are growing, the novelty as you put it isn''t a novelty, but a sign that she''s for real and you libs are scared. Keep up up the good propaganda posting tony, it only supports the conservatives views that the dem party is blinded by hate and will never debate an issue on facts, just name calling, personal attacks and spreading of unsubstantiated rumors.

With respect to the issues, McSame has not talked about any during the whole campaign which should alarm anybody who is considering voting for him. He is ranting and raving about ethics reform and ear marks. But I will argue that with this economy, there are more pressing issues to address.

Posted by Tonyd_31

I must say you sound like one of those paid workers by the Barack Hussein Obama campaign they hired to repeat talking points and worn out cliches, spreading misinformation as much as you can. Your words give you away. Being your a liberal I wouldn''t expect you to understand how important ethics are, since you generally don''t appear to have any, but they matter greatly, for without any, you can''t get things done that need to be done in Washington. Also, if you don''t think earmarks that McCain is trying to get rid of don''t effect the economy, well, nothing else to be said then really except you don''t know anything about the subject.

The dems should man up and admit they took a shot at Palin

Posted by BeeBaBoo

Lady, if you did not watch it, you should not be sittng here repeating (what has been shown to be) a lie. Obama was clearly talking about McSame re-packaging Bush''''s policies. that shows me how uninformed you people are. Please educate yourself before you get on here sounding as silly and out-of-touch with reality as McSame showed yesterday on the View.

Yes you are tonyd, either that or just a one of those libs that will deny the truth to the end. Everybody knows what he meant, his campaign people used the term in one of their meetings when they were discussing it, maybe you missed that too.

Now in Palin''''s interview
on ABC, in response to being
asked if we might go to war with
Russia over Georgia she says
"Perhaps". Dear God! Is this
the kind of foreign policy this
ticket wants to give us? Do they know the value of diplomacy? Do
they even know what diplomacy means?

Posted by leehigh3

What would you have said, do you not know the meaning of the word perhaps? Try using a dictionary. I always try to encourage libs to pick up a book and read, that''s how you learn, instead of being a polly parrot and repeating worn out cliches from the dnc. Perhaps means possibly, not certain. In such circumstances one does not jump to a decision before actual events have occurred, least wise not intelligent people. Careless wreckless inviduals like Barack Hussein Obama and joe biden who is notoriously known as a hot head and gets very rude when things don''t go his way. I saw the interview and McCain didn''t get angry at all, you must have mistaken his demeanor since he is passionate about his views on topics and your use to seeing people like Barack Hussein Obama who stutters and stammers trying to think up the right answer for the moment, he doesn''t really know what he believes and he doesn''t want to get caught telling a lie, so he has to think about every thing he says. That''s the big difference between someone who actually belives in what they say and someone that doesn''t.

I could not believe how disrespectful the "ladies" of the view treated Sen. McCain. Truly another low in television.

We, as Americans, all owe these ladies our gratitude for taking a stand against dishonesty in presidential politics. It is high time we stop the crooks from lying their way into power like the current ''Resident''.

Yes, I also heard the anger in McCain''s voice. I hear the anger
in his voice everytime he speaks.

He views everything from a military
perspective and apparently thinks
a military solution is the answer
to our problems anywhere in the
world.

RUDE! RUDE! RUDE!

I don''t care what side your on these ladies were rude to John McCain. Even libs have to admit they never would have talked to BO like this. Big mistake, this is the very thing that''s propelling the McCain-Palin ticket with independsnts.
