Starting Gate: All About Sarah

(ST. PAUL) Everyone, it seems, is learning a lot more about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin than was known a few short days ago, including many in the Republican Party and not a few on John McCain’s own campaign. Since being plucked out of relative obscurity, the governor has been thrust into the national spotlight and spurred a feeding frenzy among reporters and operatives trying to find out just who this person is that McCain selected as potentially the next vice president.

And so a round of revelations has followed – that her 17 year-old daughter is pregnant, that she was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it, that she was once a member of a state party which supports secession and that her husband was arrested for drunk driving over twenty years ago.

Did the campaign vet this choice thoroughly? According to many in the tight-knit Alaska community who spoken up, the answer appears to be no. Many state officials, friends and neighbors who have been quoted say they were shocked at the choice and had no idea the campaign was seriously considering Palin. Not at all, the McCain campaign has pushed back. They say Palin was put through a “full and complete” examination. In an interview with the AP, Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr., the attorney who directed McCain’s vetting process was asked if all the “red flags” have been made public. "I think so,” he responded. “Yeah, I think so. Correct."

Not terribly encouraging for nervous Republicans wondering what shoe might drop next on Palin. We’re not there quite yet but anymore startling revelations about the governor or her family could put this story at a tipping point in terms of public perception, even among the delegates here at the convention most all of who continue to support her enthusiastically.

The sheer volume of Palin coverage is somewhat jarring, but it shouldn’t be unexpected. She is a public figure nobody knows much about from a state that is as unfamiliar to the New York-Washington corridor as a small foreign country. That dynamic may have been one of the reasons McCain chose her – shake up the race as well as introduce a component as removed from the culture of Washington as possible.

Whether the campaign was prepared for all that has flooded forth in terms of information about Palin remains a question mark. But – as long as the revelations slow to at least a trickle – there doesn’t seem to be anything yet that does any real core damage to the ticket. And, the campaign has yet to roll her out for her own introduction. For their sake, that probably should happen soon.

Getting to know all about Sarah Palin may yet turn into a positive for McCain’s campaign and their ticket. So far, though, she remains a blank page that is beginning to be filled up in a negative way for many voters.

, I have always been tired of the GOP using Religion and God to sway voters%u2026.it should simply be about the critical issues and the best leaders to build concensus and implement necessary change to help ALL Americans, not just the faithful. I thought it was hypocritical that Gov. Palin had her poor 17year old daughter holding the 4-month baby with a blanket covering her belly%u2026if she was sooo proud, why were they hiding this? This is so obviously a tactic and it insults educated women like me who can see right thru this risky move. I wonder how the GOP and the media would react if it was a political family that happeed to be Hispanic or black? Would we see it as simply a %u201Ccommon mistake%u201D?! or, would we call it another example of the lack of American values and a baby out of wedlock?!?

Clearly there is a double standard and hypocrisy%u2026Again, it should be about the best candidates and focus on issues.

Do you really think that she can right all her wrongs with a speech on Wednesday night ? What will she say ? I''''m sorry that you don''''t know anything about me. There''''s a lot more to come. Hey it''''s that old guys fault. He fell in love with me on our first date. I actually really feel sorry for her, because she is being used by McCain as a pawn. Isn''''t this something that happens to women a lot ? John McCain is irresponsible and has probably damaged Palin''''s career for life. I hear about all these women who will rally around her, but I give women more credit, they don''''t fall for smoke and mirrors.

McCain has this Nomination about 2 to 3 months ago and if his team could
not do this simple investigation of Sarah Palin background how on earth can he run this Country as a President?
These
According to Republican close to the McCain campaign is quoted as saying ''''They didn%u2019t seriously consider her until four or five days from the time she was picked, before she was asked, maybe the Thursday or Friday before...This was really kind of rushed at the end, because John didn%u2019t get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge.'''', so what were they doing all this time? They are useless.

Not only has Gov Palin solicited earmarks for the bridge to nowhere but also in February was still soliciting future funds! She canceled the bridge to nowhere project and spent the money anyway. She still built the island''s bridge access road that now ends at an empty beach. She still is soliciting Washington Handouts as Senator McCain''s campaign sells her to the American Voters as a no earmarks reformer. McCain''s vetting continues to get worse and worse. Can we afford to allow McCain to vet government employees that will be worse than those Bush appointed?

See http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=3105288&page=1

In February, Palin''s [governor''s] office sent Sen. Stevens a 70-page memo outlining almost $200 million worth of new funding requests for Alaska."

The Palin VP choice is a prime example of the problem with the Republican party these days. Palin was chosen for her religious views instead of competence. The incomptent, but right kind of Christain Bushies, have destroyed teh Republican party and hurt the nation. Instead of McCain changing the Republican party, the religious zealots have taken over the McCain campaign.

It seems McCain locked up the nomination an eternity ago. What has he been doing all this time?

Clearly he wasn''t checking Palin''s background.

I didn''t think this was possible, but McCain seems more incompetent than Bush.

Vote Bob Barr! He understands what made Republicans great.

Sarah Palin just gave birth at age 43 to a child with Down Syndrome. This was here 5th child and she had also just been sel-ected to the Governorship of Alaska at the same time. Sarah Palin is deep entrenched to the Big Oil industry in Alaska, a right wing social bible thumper, and an irresponsible mother with ambiguous priorities.

A Republican close to the McCain campaign is quoted as saying ''They didn%u2019t seriously consider her until four or five days from the time she was picked, before she was asked, maybe the Thursday or Friday before...This was really kind of rushed at the end, because John didn%u2019t get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge.''

When someone in or around the campaign says this - it''s confirmation that they failed to do the most BASIC vetting beforehand.

Who knows, maybe all these Palin revelations will settle down and Palin will turn out to be fine - but what does it say about McCain''s judgment or fitness to be President, that in his rush to snatch the headlines away from Obama (literally the day AFTER the Obama speech) he failed to take into account the most basic requirements of picking a veep.

Sarah Palin is a distraction and Media Circus to engross attention away from the real issues and detrimental results the Conservative Agenda has had on Average Americans.

Wedge issues such as Roe vs. Wade and Woman%u2019s Rights are a feeble attempt to obscure the platform the RNC will be sustaining with another 4 year term.

Here''s Another One:

PALIN REPEATEDLY LAUGHS AS CANCER SURVIVOR OPPONENT CALLED NAMES

LISTEN TO HER LAUGH on YouTube Audio HERE:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9AIDRGzUAw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKkydrUnBZE

-------

Early THIS year, an op-ed in the Anchorage Daily News ripped into Gov. Sarah Palin''s appearance (1/15/08) on a morning "shock jock" radio show ("The Bob and Mark Show") as "plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish and inexcusable performances I''ve ever seen from a politician."

Palin has feuded with State Senate president, Lyda Green, over a wide range of legislation.

Lester referred to Sen. Green as a jealous woman and a cancer.

PALIN knows full well Lyda Green is a CANCER SURVIVOR, but didn''t do what any decent person would do, say, "Bob, that''s going too far."

Lester questioned Green''s motherhood, asking Palin if Green cares about her own kids.

PALIN LAUGHS.

Then Lester says, "Lyda Green is a cancer and a b*tch."

PALIN LAUGHS for the second time.

What were teenage boys and girls thinking when they heard the governor laugh at someone being called a b*tch? How about the teenage girls who look up to Palin? What did they think as she laughed?

But there is more. Lester then describes Green''s chair as big and cushy. A clear reference to the senator''s weight.

PALIN LAUGHS a third time.

Palin clearly enjoyed Lester''s vicious attack on Green. Then she says she''s "honored" by Lester and invites him to her State of Alaska speech.

Dear concerned citizens of America and mass media of the U.S.A.

The citizens of the United States of America [USA] have the ultimate power and responsibility to elect the Right Ticket with the right joint "temperament, judgment, and statesmanship" to lead our nation as well as change our nation''s present and future moral, political, economic, educational, health care, energy, military, and foundational soul.

1. Does the joint ticket have a calm, cool, and collected " temper and impulse" [Presidential Temperament]?
2. Does each ticket have sound and sustained "Judgment and Caliber"?
3. Does each ticket have a "presidential depth and degree" in regard to their purpose, policies, and positions?
4. Does each ticket have adequate, "understanding and knowledge" of workings around Washington"?
5. Does each ticket have enough "vigor, wisdom and Vision" for the future of our beloved Great-grand Nation?
6. Does each ticket possess enough joint foreign policy experience and ex-poser based on "American Values, Virtues, Vastness, and strong soul"?
7. Are their campaign talk, slogans, ads, plans, and programs based on facts and are they free of fear, fiction, frivolous labels, unfair attacks, negativity, and impulsivity?

PS: Please do not blame Sarah or her daughter. Blame McCains impulsiveness and temerament.
