McCain Can't Say How Many Houses He Owns

In an interview with Politico yesterday, John McCain said he isn't sure how many houses he owns.

"I think — I'll have my staff get to you," McCain said. "It's condominiums where — I'll have them get to you."

McCain's staff later said McCain owns four houses, in Arizona, California and Virginia. But the Obama campaign has said that number is seven. Consider what Obama strategist David Axelrod said to the New York Times, in reference to the notion that McCain is casting Obama as elitist and out of touch: "Obviously, his strategists met on the portico of the McCain estate in Sedona — or maybe in one of his six other houses — and decided what line of attack they were going to use."

PolitiFact examined this charge and found that the John and Cindy McCain do own seven houses – though Cindy, who chairs a beer distributorship founded by her father, owns most of them. Two of them, in a beachfront complex in Coronado, California, may be investment properties; one is a Phoenix condo that Cindy McCain apparently bought for daughter Meghan. (UPDATE: Now it appears it may be at least eight.)

As Politico notes, Democrats and labor groups have, in recent weeks, begun focusing on the McCain family's wealth in order to hit back at Republican effort to cast Obama as elitist. Estimates put Cindy McCain's worth in excess of $100 million.

Democrats have already begun pointing out the comment about houses to reporters, along with McCain's (apparently joking) suggestion that it takes an income of $5 million to be rich, as TPM notes. The Democratic National Committee has been aggressively spotlighting both comments, and the Obama campaign this morning sent the TPM report to its email list.

UPDATE: And now the Obama campaign has released an ad on this very subject. See this post for details.

I cant believe McCain doesnt know how many houses he owns, not counting the fact that he thinks you have to make 5 mill a year to be wealthy? *** McCain is a PRO WAR the commenter is right above. McCain only has stories., in the forum he didnt even answer questions. Instead he told stories which he has memorized and repeated at everytown hall meeting he has ever had. Obama might lead to the great depression. But McCain will probably lead to the Great Depression with a side of WWIII. We should probably elect someone who has to at least live with the choices they make in the white house. McCain will be checking out soon, What does he care if he leaves this country in a mess. The US presidency is just a prize to him. I hate the two party system. Obama is right to say McCain is out of touch and a hot head. John McCain does have a temper, I saw the video of him blowing up on a former senator and dropping the f bomb. http://www.mccanes.com Y McCain will lose if he picks Romney http://www.hotpres.com I guess someone is making a movie about Obama''s teenage years. http://www.theobamaplan.com watch video of McCain talking about his failed first marrige at http://www.mccanes.com

John McCain is too old to remember everything like how much real estate he has title to.

Now, an understanding reasonable answer from a financial (married to) elitist could be that real estate holdings are currently in the progress of trading and the exact number, or value of assets are not available at this time.

Grampy%u2019s answer was %u201CI don%u2019t know%u201D.

Is this the man we want to have with his shaky hand on the Nuclear Button?

Here''s the difference: AMNESTY-JOHN and his wife paid for their homes with their own money.

Hussein got his mansion via a deal with sleazy lobbyist, slum landlord, and pal Tony Rezko, who is now a convicted felon. There have been numerous shady real estate deals between hussein and Rezko - including the lot next to hussein''s Chicago mansion that was purchased by Rezko, then sold to hussein at a bargain-basement price. The Los Angeles Times reported that it had found that Rezko and his associates had given hussein "more than $200,000 in donations since 1995."

The suspicious, pay-off-like dealings between Rezko and his partner-in-crime hussein were originally exposed many, many months ago, but these were as well hidden by the liberal media as was edwards'' affair and love-child. The sleaze between the Chicago Cretin and Rezko stinks well beyond Chicago. Hopefully, the voters of America will get a good whiff of it.

I love the ad... not only does it show you how out of touch McCain is, He is also losing his memory. He needs all of those properties to house all of his lobbyists. What happened to the ROVE ROBOT ? His campaign thought they could keep him from talking. Have you noticed that McCain reads everything lately ?

The only reason that John McCain and Cindy file separate tax returns is so McCain''s first crippled wife doesn''t get more alimony support.
