McCain Meets With T. Boone Pickens, Dodges Question About Anti-Obama Book

(CBS)
From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

(ASPEN, COLO.) - T. Boone Pickens was waiting for John McCain in a small conference room at the Aspen Meadows Resort, where the two, according to Pickens, were going to be “talking about the Pickens plan.”

“We're going to have a good visit,” he added.

Pickens, a famous oilman and one of America’s richest men, is now pushing a plan to drop the United States’ dependence on foreign oil and focus more on alternative energies including wind and natural gas. He said it had been two years since he had last met with McCain.

McCain entered the room alongside his campaign's senior adviser Steve Schmidt and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. and greeted Pickens, who was dressed in a green blazer and tan pants with no tie.

“You’re looking trim," Pickens told McCain as they engaged in some small talk. Pickens mentioned yesterday’s Census article in a newspaper about how non-Hispanic whites would no longer be the majority in 2042.

“You and I won't have to worry about that,” Pickens said jokingly, referring to the age of the two men.

Schmidt then shook hands with Pickens, as well as Aspen Institute CEO Walter Isaacson, who was dressed in a polo shirt and the most casual of the four. McCain insisted Isaacson stay for the meeting.

A reporter tried to ask McCain about a new anti-Obama book, to which McCain responded cryptically "gotta keep your sense of humor."

McCain staffer Brooke Buchanan then stretched her arms in front of her boss, saying “we’re not doing that,” and escorted reporters to the door.

John McCain has voted 99% in favor of all Bush Administration bills and has supported (when, before and after flip-flopping) most of the Conservative Agenda against the American Middle Class. McCain%u2019s only qualification as commander and chief would be to lead this country into perpetual war.

When it comes to facing another term of Republican Corruption and lowered living standards of the American Working Class I guess one has gotta keep their sense of humor.

I wonder if McCain is going to attempt to persuade T-Boone into investing in OFFSHORE WIND GENERATION???

Either way if Republicans are in control new energy will cost the American People%u2026.and cost, and cost%u2026.

No, I don%u2019t expect free energy, but I do expect if the Conservative Free to Manipulate Market is in control again, they will stick it big time (as they have been doing) to you and I.

And, that''s not change we can beleive in my friends!

Mattcat25- as far as I know Congress proposes and the PResident disposes. So if Congress created a bill and McCain also voted for it, perhaps if it were a Republican bill, the President would approve it. But since this Congress since Pelosi took over, hasn''t passed many bills except post office name changes, maybe you really can''t count the percentages as you are stating. McCain has in the past pushed legislation that was not totally Republican backed but he was able to get compromises through that were eventually passed. Obama has no such experience, having sponsored very few bills in COngress and as a State Senator voted 130 times as ''Present". McCains energy plans are grounded in fact and if Pelosi would allow more drilling and shale oil processing we might be able to build up supplies as we conserve and India and China continue their record use. That may prevent significant increases in oil costs in the future. Obama''s plan depends on windfall profits tax on an industry that makes an average of 8.5% profit and has been proven to REDUCE supplies as was tried in the 70s. He will tax big business to fund alternative energys plans but for 20 years the US will suffer with exorbitant costs as he mandates alternative energy usage even if the technology results in more expensive energy. The US consumer cannot afford him.

For 2 reasons.

1. Obama is a public figure and slander has almost impossible burden to overcome

2. that obama is a Political figure and corsi pack of lies can be seen as political speech.

Obama 8 days if you had brain you would have known.

T Boone Pickens...the jerk who financed the Swiftboaters who trashed John Kerry...a decorated war hero?

T Boone Pickens...the one who''s spent his life making billions driving up the price of oil...and now wants to "help" us poor Americans by making us dependent on HIM, not the Middle East...since he''s cornered the market on natural gas?

That''s who George W McCain is meeting with?

LMAO.

The truth is : we do NOT have as much oil resourses here to compete.
We do NOT have even enough to cover our demand.
This'' drill-drill" game is one more McWar trick, to sipport and even finance Oil companies''s development for the profit to be steady and huge , huge enough for them to enjoy that profit, pretty little to make sense in oil market.
What they want - Government financial suppost on early stages of exploration to get for us $ 0.02 price decrease or less(maybe , as others will still explore oil all over the world)in about 10 years.
Who is ready to devote his own life for these Oil Company''s profit and McWar''s bribes , that he already got for his election compaign???
WHO are YOU??????

Wow...I just registered on this site, have read the posts on this topic, and have concluded that most posters on here are mindless idiots. I don''t have a problem with free speech, just the idiots who use it. But, even to your dismay, I''m not going away. :)

Truth is, America can not afford Obama. He may be an extremely eloquant speaker, but that in no way qualifies him to be President. He is just another elitist Democrat, one who has been smoothed and primed by the Democratic Party to baffle and BS the American public who desperately wants some things to change. Most people seem to forget that we have been living in a Dem controlled house now for years, with President Pelosi heading the disasters we are sustaining. We need some one solid, and one who wont back down in fights that favor anything over seas, some one who puts the American People first, not a man who easily slid into favor with our known enemies.

McCain simply parrots Geo Bush''s solutions, the past 7 1/2 years have proven them to be wrong. The Republicans must go.

Pickens wants the taxpayer to finance his pet project.Developing wind power is proper and the taxpayer will probably foot the bill no matter how its done, but I really don''t like making Pickens richer!

What America can''t afford is an extension of the ruinous Bush administration.McCain is just an older more corrupt version of Bush!

He did comment on it: "gotta keep your sense of humor." I wish Obama would show a little in his lofty campaign. Maybe humor is "above his pay grade." Check out the realtime online poll at http://www.bop-o-rama.com for a morning chuckle and a few bops. Your bops count in realtime!
