Too Much Obama? Some Complain Of Obama Fatigue

Is Barack Obama overexposed? Way back in 2005, the presumptive Democratic nominee had this to say: "Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame. I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

Nowadays, Obama is far more well known than he was back then, Paris Hilton is (satirically) running for president, and a new survey from Pew finds that "nearly half (48%) of the public says they have been hearing 'too much' about Obama lately." (No word on Hilton.)

More from the survey on "Obama fatigue": "By a margin of 76% to 11% respondents in Pew's weekly News Interest Index survey named Obama over McCain as the candidate they have heard the most about in recent days."

While people say they're sick of hearing about the presumptive Democratic nominee, they want more on his rival: "Just 26% in the poll said they had heard too much about McCain, while a larger number (38%) reported that they had heard too little about the putative Republican candidate."

Obama could cultivate a lower profile once the Olympics, an event expected to get tremendous news coverage, start on Friday – and indeed, the candidate is scheduled to go on vacation in Hawaii with his family next week. Of course, as both he and McCain are spending heavily on ads during the Olympics, he'll still be on television screens even while he is (ostensibly) out of the spotlight.

Again, most are getting tired of hearing Tinkerbelle and tooth fairy promises for gimme''''s that will never be passed into legislation! The country would be broke three days after they were! It''''s getting insane what the man will say for a vote! And it''''s insane how he''''s tried to scam people with the rock band krap.

It''''s like an obnoxious fly you just want to swat and tell it to go away.

I''m starting to agree that the only thing that has Obama in this contest is race. Imagine an Obama that was 70 years old and white - a guy with no experience, no ideas, and who betrays his voters every chance he gets. A small-time lawyer from Chicago. He would have 0% chance of winning the nomination. Obama''s entire campaign is "hey I''m different" but when you pay attention, the only way he is "different" is his fake mixed race. That is the only thing remotely "different" about this two-bit little con man from Chicago. Otherwise he is one of the phoniest, insincere, selfish and small-minded politicians you will ever see on the national stage.

(38%) reported that they had heard too little about the putative Republican candidate? WHat about the other 62% who believe old school McCheney has nothing new to offer?

It only surprises me that it took this long for folks to get tired of seeing/hearing about Barack.

Man, Obama is bad! He is popular, very intelligent,an in depth knowledge of how things work in this world, self confidance, more interested in moving things forward and getting things done, rather than with rigid ideology, able to get people really engaged, not only in the political process, but also interested in the governing process. The way a Democracy was meant to run, by and for the people.

Boy that sure scares the heck out of some people!

It took me awhile to become aware of the pattern. The media saturates the public with something for weeks on end, and then does a poll checking to see if the publics perception is what the media intended to create.

Brilliant!

I agree with Memekiller, to a degree... Let Obama speak for himself rather than the media and Sunday hosts explain what he "meant" to say.
Then the "undecided" public would get a full idea of the radical socialist that he really is.

What always strikes me is the difference between the Obama discussed on Sunday talk shows, and just watching a clip of what Obama actually says. Remove the filter, and this is Mondale level wipe out for McCain. His only hope is to have Obama presented by the lips of George Will. Let Obama speak for Obama, and it exposes how insulated the DC punditry actually is.

To hear them talk, Obama is too popular to be President -- not to be confused with the trust fund baby everyone wants to have a beer with.

Come to think of it, I think the 2000 election would have been different if Bush spoke for Bush instead of George Will.

I''m just the opposite. I can''t turn on the TV for 15 minutes without seeing at least one McCain ad.

This is only August and I''m already sick of McCain''s ads in Wisconsin.
