“The One”

The McCain campaign isn’t letting go of the “celebrity” theme they’ve launched to try and define (or at least get under the skin of) Barack Obama. They’re up with a new Web ad called, “The One,” which hits on the “messiah” narrative – in the same vein as this London Times column that got widespread attention during Obama’s European trip last week.

The new ad opens with a deep-voiced narrator intoning, “it shall be known that in 2008, the world will be blessed. They will call him ‘The One.’” The ad splices in a series of quotes from Obama throughout the campaign, including one where Obama talks about the light that will shine down upon voters as an epiphany (that one was a poke back at Hillary Clinton during the primaries). The ad end with this line: “Barack Obama may be ‘The One,’ but is he ready to lead.

The McCain camp sent the ad to supporters in a fund-raising appeal, calling it their “latest fun video.” McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace tells CBS News' John Bentley that there is an "important role for humor in all campaigns. I think all of us would slit our wrists if it wasn't for that."

No description adequately captures the spirit of this ad. Watch it below:

cigl_fubar,

Being a dynamic speaker is certainly not enough to be a good President but it odes help.

There''s no way to acurately predict how anyone will do as President. 8 years ago Tepublicans insisted the Bush was ready to lead because he was an MBA. That didn''t work out as predicted.

No one questions the fact that Obama has built an incredibly disciplined campaign organization that has not experienced the constant staff turnover, resignations, and funding problems of the McCain & Clinton Campaigns.

Is that an indication of someone less ready to manage and lead the federal government?

With Cindy McCain spending $75,000 a MONTH on credit cards, the only "ONE" I see is a rich girl and her senile husband who want to buy the Presidency for their corporate friends.

truthmatterz,

Do you believe I am a political agent of McCain''s? If so, you are as ignorant as your posts make you seem.

McCain is not my first choice for US President, but then neither party nominated a good choice. BUT McCain is a much better choice than Obama. McCain is a war veteran who sacrificed his physical health and 5 years of his life for this country as a prisoner of war. Has Obama ever loved the USA enough to do that? H-ell no. Obama has spent his life protesting and seething in anger at the plight of black Americans.

I am simply choosing the lesser of the two evils. Obama is a much greataer threat to our freedom and security than McCain!

Perhaps the point of all this negativity on the part of the McCain campaign is to just plain dishearten voters. These ads are more a statement about American voters than Obama. They poke fun at our enthusiasm for the political process, and remind us that McCain and his rich friends really run things, and don''t give a hoot about what matters to average working people, short of what small concessions they have decided they are going to provide for us. It''s a smack down of OUR values and OUR deisire to participate in democracy.

Did everyone hear the Hilton''s have been one of McCain''s top contributors for years.

After the Paris ad, Paris Hilton''s mother called McCain wasteful with money.

Pretty funny that McCain''s top supporters think he''s worse with money than Bush.

LOVE IT. McCain is FINALLY starting to throw some punches and according to the recent polls -- they''re landing right where they need to go. Keep it up, JM.

Let''s be accurate, Lying John''s pandering to the liars and hypocrites by being one. And the last thing he''s ducking are people that pay attention, especially the racist and bigot voters that deliberately don''t pay attention.

Okay, McCain has sewn up the moron vote. But he still might want to show a few more pix of BHO to shore up the imbicile base. (Note to Rick Davis: Lindsay Lohan''s AVAILABLE!!)

Obama is the black Jimmy Carter. He would kiss the terrorists'' @sses instead of fighting back. Americans don''t want to re-live the embarrassing Carter days.

I guess according to the McBush(McCain) camp if your a dynamic speaker that inspires your listeners you really have no business being president. Instead a president should be like their candidate a bumbling speaker that no one gets inspired by and few want to listen to. This fits very well since the whole idea of the republican party is that you have a president that the corporations and extreme rich can control. Basicly a puppet. McBush fits the bill.
It is dangerous to those in power to have someone who can actually rally the citizens of this country to action. Obama fits that bill.

I''m an independent who supported McCain''s Presidential bid in 2000 and contributed money to his campaign. Either I was mistaken about him then or he has undergone a transformation since. I never took seriously the Obama argument that McCain represented Bush''s 3rd term. However, with McCain''s embrace of Karl Rove tactics and his pandering to the far right, it now seems clear to me that McCain would indeed be Years 9-12 of the George W. Bush administration. I don''t care about Obama or whoever McCain is running against, but I can''t vote for McCain/Bush 2008.

The bama is for the bama and doesn''t give a hoot about anyone but himself. He just wants to be president and doesn''t care WHAT he has to do to get there. I''m not taking a chance on a loose cannon.

Another Obama flip-flop. He''s turning into a whirling dervish and won''t even remember what his original platform was. Never saw anyone so desperate to win that he would even turn into a republican if it meant he could win. And what are the libs saying about all this? Are they going to adopt republican policies in order to elect their Messiah? Strangest election I''ve ever seen and I''ve seen more than most of you out there. Don''t think I''ve ever seen a candidate change his mind this much. This guy is dangerous to America. You can''t trust anything he says because he''s always backing away from something. Not good.

Of course he has gone negative, he has little else to offer. His policies are the failed policies of GW Bush that he voted to support over 85% of the time. He did everything he could to get bush elected, and now his campaign is being run by Karl Rove''s protege, so that his campaign won''t be interrupted by Roves arrest for contempt of congress. It is the same old politics. If you like W, if you like Rove, Schmidt and the politics of division, if you are happy where our country standing is in the world and the state of our economy, Obama not your candidate.
