McCain Camp Releases Video Criticizing Obama on Iraq

From CBS News' Michelle Levi:

(WASHINGTON) John McCain's campaign launched what they're calling a "documentary" video today, which features soundbites of Barack Obama offering seemingly contradictary positions on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The McCain campaign referred to the 8-minute video, titled "The Obama Iraq Documentary: Whatever the Politics Demand" and is running only on the internet, as a "timeline" of Obama's statements on the war.

It opens with footage of Obama saying "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse." The date "1/10/07" is featured repeatedly and prominently on the screen. The next shot features Obama arguing that the surge would work: "I said at the time, when I opposed the surge, that given how wonderfully our troops perform, if we place 30,000 more troops in there, then we would see an improvement in the security situation and we would see a reduction in the violence" from "1/5/08."

The video then states, "Translation: You're Never Wrong If You Pretend You Gave The Right Answer All Along."

McCain supporters gathered for the video's launch on Capitol Hill and echoed the campaign's argument: that Obama's positions on the wars amount to "political posturing."

"[Obama] views Iraq more as a political issue than a national security issue and he is constantly striving to craft the right political position on Iraq to advance his political ambitions," explained Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., who has been mentioned as a potential McCain running mate, argued, "You can about guarantee that [Obama] is going to take the postion that satisfies the far left of his party...it does become a political decision rather than a national security decision."

The Democratic National Committee responded almost immediately with a press conference where three previously released McCain campaign web videos were shown.

"The latest partisan attacks against Senator Obama by the McCain campaign would put a smile on the face of the architects of the Swift Boat Veteran attacks against John Kerry," Obama surrogate Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Tex., said in response to the McCain video.

"It isn't like you can't have a well formulated policy before you go," Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., said in response to criticism that Obama has finalized his policy before visiting Iraq and Afghanistan.

"There is a big distinction here as well between strategy and tactics. The strategy is what is important," he continued. "I don't see how you can even announce a run for president if you didn't have a pretty good idea of what you thought our strategy ought to be in one of the single most important foreign policy decisions."

Going to fight a GROUND WAR in Iraq and Afghanistan was President Dumbo Bush''s idea of becoming a war hero. The stupid, arrogant, brain damaged Republican had to have his way like spoiled baby. Look at all the people who ended up DEAD and the trillions, TRILLIONS of tax dollars WASTED on this mess. We need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan permanently and just drop some bombs on their headquarters next time WITHOUT the endless, senseless, NEEDLESS ground war and occupation. THAT is what is wrong with the Republicans, Americans stupid enough to support them, our economy and everything else to do with the multiple crisis situations we are NOW having to deal with both at home and abroad. AMERICA NEEDS TO RECOVER and learn to stay out of these worthless countries. We have accomplished NOTHING but to get thousands killed and go down the tube financially, what a complete and utter stupid WASTE of lives, time, money and resources. VOTE THEM ALL OUT.

What about Obama''s 57 states of the United States comment. He was thinking of the 57 Islamic states. Boy, we really want him and his memory as our commander in chief.

It''s no wonder McCain doesn''t realize the importance of winning the war in Afghanistan. He didn''t attend a single meeting!!!

The most critical issue facing America today is Islam terrorist. England has an est. 16,000 terrorist residing in their country and about 3,000 of these have actually trained in al Qaeda camps. The Muslim population in Europe has exploded while the native European''s population continues to decline. By the end of this century it is estimated that Europe will have Muslims as the majority population. Islam is now the 2nd largest religion in France, with about 1700 mosques.

Think about the above before you post juvenile comments on these blogs and especially before you vote in Nov. If we leave Iraq, we will lose the Middle East to radical terrorists; Iran is waiting to step in as they have always detested Iraq and it has been in recent years when these two countries fought each other. Iran might win after all.

When McCain gets tested for his obvious short term memory problems and his possible beginnings of Alzheimer''s, we will have the spectacle of the Republicans deciding between Huckabee and Romney, because the smart money says, McCain wont pass neurology exams, otherwise, HE WOULD HAVE SUBMITTED TO BEING TESTED.
He omitted any such tests from his recently provided medical test results.
Too old. Sorry John. I voted for you against Bush in 2000. Time marches on, and your failure to remember the participants in Iraq and your failure to remember the names of European countries tells us you should never be in charge of decisions. We dont care if you get Liebermann as your VP. Sometimes, you have to think fast, and you cannot do it.
