Obama More Than Doubles McCain Fund-raising in June

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(CHICAGO) Barack Obama raised $52 million in the month of June, leaving him with almost $72 million cash on hand, according to his campaign. Campaign manager David Plouffe reported the numbers early this morning in an e-mail to supporters asking them for more donations.

“[W]e're facing a Republican machine with unprecedented resources at its disposal... It's going to take everything we've got to defeat John McCain and the Republican National Committee in November,” Plouffe wrote adding that McCain and the Republican National Committee have almost $100 million cash at hand.

Truth be told, McCain and the RNC announced last week they had a combined $95 million on hand as of the end of June. Obama's $72 million on hand added to the Democratic National Committee's $20 million on hand in June leaves them only a few million dollars short of McCain and the GOP, denting the Obama campaign argument that they're facing a "Republican machine with unprecedented resources at its disposal."

Obama spent a substantial amount of time in June attending high dollar fund-raisers through out the country. At several events, supporters contributed as much as $28,500 per person to attend dinner or even breakfast with the presumptive Democratic nominee. Billionaire Warren Buffet and Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V. were among the many notable wealthy donors who contributed to Obama’s general election fund.

Despite his fund-raising success with high dollar donors, the campaign maintains that the vast number of donations are still acquired online. The campaign reports that the average donation in June was just $68.

Heck, when 50% of your supporters are crack dealers, it''s not all that hard to raise a lot of cash.

Who, in the right mind, in a bad economy, would put out their hard earned money at this time to man they don''t know & can''t trust?

That explains why McCain''s having so much trouble raising contributions. You hit the nail on the head, Ariel!

Check Monday%u2019s article in the National Review projecting that Obama was having trouble raising money. %u201CYou have to think that if his number was say, $44 million, doubling McCain%u2019s collection for the month, we would have heard that.%u201D

MCCAIN HAS CARLY FIORINI (WHO WAS FIRED FROM HER MOST RECENT JOB AS CEO OF HP) DONATING TO HIM; OBAMA HAS WARREN BUFFET (ONE OF THE SMARTEST PEOPLE MAKING MONEY ON WALL STREET, AND ONE OF THE RICHEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD) DONATING TO HIM. ...SMART PEOPLE LIKE TO MAKE MORE MONEY....AND SUPPORT PEOPLE THEY BELIEVE WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN...I PREFER WARREN BUFFET''S SMARTS IN SUPPORTING OBAMA. ...LET''S PUT OBAMA TO WORK FOR AMERICA!!!
