Mitt Romney, Happy Warrior
Months after the terse Republican primary fight in Michigan, Mitt Romney returned to the state where he was born and his father once served as governor to open a campaign headquarters for John McCain in the Detroit suburbs where he grew up. Long gone are the day when the two candidates clashed on economic know-how and optimism about the nation's economic future.
CBSNews.com's Scott Conroy caught up with Romney in Michigan to talk about the campaign, the candidates and the speculation that Romney is one of those being seriously considered to be McCain's running mate. While he refused to say much on the VP question, Romney did say he had not been asked to turn over any material to the campaign at this point. And he played the role of at least campaign surrogate to the hilt, finding nothing but kind words for the his former primary foe and struggling to say much complimentary of Democrat Barack Obama.
