WSJ: Hagel To Join Obama On Iraq Trip

Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska will join Barack Obama on his upcoming trip to Iraq, The Wall Street Journal reports.

According to CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic, the Obama campaign will not comment on the paper's report but did not deny its validity.

Hagel, a vocal critic of the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq war, has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for Obama and has said that he would consider an offer from the presumptive Democratic nominee.

The Nebraska senator is currently ranked #4 on the CBSNews.com Democratic VP hot sheet.

Obama people in the UK are desperately wanting to see Obama on his visit. I am getting calls at 2am from people wanting to do anything, go anywhere, even from other countries.

Such passion!

Are Americans at home aware of the extreme and intense interest of both Americans overseas and non-Americans in Barack Obama?

If you like Obama, don''t tell this to the xenophobes in our country. If "foreigners" like something "it must be bad". And your average Appalachian voter thinks Americans who travel of live overseas must be commies. Ignorance, in America, is political bliss.

This is a good step towards unifying our country. I hope Obama continues to reach across the aisle on other major issues, not just the war.

Just a moment to recognize and offer condolences to the family of Tony Snow. TONY SNOW IS DEAD, at age 53. May his family and friends find solace in their time of grief. I''''m surprised this was not the lead story or even mentioned yet on CBS.

Chuck Hagel is a great man who has demonstrated great political courage. I''m a moderate independent voter, and I am definitely voting for Senator Obama.

Although Chuck would be a superb VP choice and really demonstrate a post-partisan stance from the Democrats, it is probably not feasible to place a conservative Republican on the ticket just a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Even so, Senator Obama ought to announce a serious position for Senator Hagel in his adminstration - perhaps Secretary of Defense. The same goes for Hillary Clinton - perhaps as the Secretary of State. These are very smart and capable people who can really help this country get back on track.

Good job Obama and Hagel!

The Best choice is John McCain. The other choice is just nonsense. Obama just won the primary out of sheer luck. Bottom Line: Obama is NOT a leader, of this country, ( USA) by any means.

LMAO! Obama choosing a republican VP! Now what does that tell you!

The man has never been a democrat, he''s a Marxist shill puppet being pulled around by the strings of his backers!

The closer November gets here, the more we see of the bought and sold empty suit!

RowdyWicca, "Marxist shill"?

You must be thinking of all the neocons who were "once" Marxists: David Horowitz, Irving Kristol (father of William Kristol), Nathan Glazer, Sidney Hook, Albert Wohlstetter, Penn Kemble, Joshua Muravchik, Christopher Hitchens, and Carl Gershman.
