Obama Criticizes Gramm; Shows Softer Side to Women Voters

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(FAIRFAX, VA.) Barack Obama poked fun at McCain campaign economic adviser Phil Gramm today for suggesting that Americans are going through a “mental recession”.

“I guess what he meant was that it’s a figment of your imagination, these high gas prices. Senator Gramm then deemed the United States, and I quote, ‘a nation of whiners’,” Obama said with a gasp as the crowd jeered.

He joked, “I want all of you to know that America already has one Dr. Phil.”

Obama’s comments came at a town hall meeting here, where a crowd of a couple thousand listened to his plan to achieve economic security for women. Since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee, Obama has been courting Hillary Clinton’s female supporters, as has John McCain. Today Obama drew on his own life experiences as he tried to convey his understand women’s struggles.

“As the son, grandson and husband of hard-working mothers, I also don’t accept an America that makes women choose between their kids and their careers,” Obama said.

Obama spoke about tucking his daughters in bed, as well as his wife, Michelle.

“Yes, I tuck Michelle in too because she usually goes to bed earlier than I do,” he explained. He also said he still finds time to read to his daughters, because “it’s important.”

“Can I just say this without bragging, over the course of the last four years, I made time to read all of the Harry Potter books, out loud, to my daughters, Malia, even when I started running for president,” Obama said, “you can find some time to read to your kids, if you decide that it’s important.”

Better find a new candidate while you still can Democrats. Anybody want to make a little bet about how many more times Obama sticks his foot in his mouth before the Convention??? (just kidding...about the betting part)

That reminds me, the press missed the one yesterday about Obama saying that kids should learn to speak Spanish and that he''s ashamed that most American''s can only speak one language? There they go with that being ashamed of America again. Too bad he wasn''t ashamed when his minister shouted, "GOD DAAAAAAM AMERICA",
......Oh yeh, and the issue of Obama''s patriotism.....look for it to come back, big time.

Who''s this "we"? Speak for yourself.

As for me and mine, we''re all positioned just fine, to weather the current crop of national problems.

It was a significant gaffe for Obama to demand that we all teach our kids Spanish.

It lumps him with the open-borders, one-world crowd; those who don''t have to witness their neighborhoods crumbling into slums where five clans jam into one house and ancient heaps line the streets, and where vicious Guatemalan gangs terrorize anybody with two bucks to rub together.

Have the Dem nominee look into the crime stats in LA and Phoenix.

Bad, BAD move by Barack.

We are whiners, we want the government to fix everything in our lives, welfare, healthcare, education, mortgages.

When do we Americans take personal responsibility for our lives. We lose jobs but do nothing to get new training for another job, we eat food that is bad for us and we ask the government to give us better healthcare, we don''''t educate our children at an early age at home to give them a headstart in school we want the government to improve education, we didn''''t get an education and we want welfare benefits for life and don''''t want to get the training that is offered, we buy gas guzzlers and question why the government is not controlling gas prices, we bought a house we knew we couldn''''t afford or were trying to keep up with our friends and were talked into and the bubble burst (educated people shouldn''''t do any of these).

Take responsibility for your lives fellow Americans

As for langauges, perhaps Obama ( an true elitist) should be talking about how his ''race'' should learn to speak proper English before preaching how others should learn other langauges.

PS. Crewmwmber- Wow, you are delusional to think Obama is a leader- He can give a good speech but he HAS DONE NOTHING IN 2 YEARS in the senate to justify being ANYTHING!!-

WAKE UP you all.

Well, Ariel, then don''t vote for him. That''s why there''s a choice. For the record, Obama''s "inexperience" just upset a complete triangulated democratic machine, when he beat Hillary he beat an ex-President and a political insider group that was well oiled. He has proved to be a quick study in all facets of government, and I think we can get passed the inexperienced tag at this point. Obama is a proven leader of the American people. He is trustworthy and has the American interests first. That is a first.

Wow - I feel like I''ve fallen through the looking glass. Looks like a bunch of Hillary supporters all found the same article to post to. Do yourselves, and us, a favor, read up on McCain''s record on equal pay, women''s rights, and the right to choose.

Obama does not respect Women. He said he would help Hillary with her campaign debt, but that was a lie to get her supporters to vote for him. Remember he talked down to that women reporter and called her sweetie. Women know the difference.

It''s good that the McCain team is coordinating their talking points, as John McCain''s been talking about how the problems with the economy, gas prices, energy, et al, and his proposals to solve them, are ''mostly psychological'', for months now.

Alternative energy? McCain will harness the power of the subconscious, store it in a science-contest-prize battery, and use it to power your new ''horseless carriage''.

Go McCain!

Phil Gramm is a typical carbon copy clone of the out of touch, dated, ignorant Republican party. He sits there on his fat rich butt with our tax money acting as if he is entitled to spit on the American people in a time of REPUBLICAN spawned economic crisis. What is wrong with this picture? Losers like him, Republicans, should all be APOLOGIZING for the economic disaster they have created for the American people. They shouldn''t be instead criticizing the American people as being weak when Republicans like Gramm are the ones who are responsible for the HUGE mess this country is now in. Time to CLEAN HOUSE and vote ALL of these ignorant, anti American Republicans OUT, power to the people.

So why won''''t he debate MCCain at at Town Hall?
I am a woman and I do not like nor trust Obama, not because he is ''black'', ''young'' or ''''nice'''' but because Obama is simply too ''''inexperianced''''

That is enough to know he is NOT right to lead this country.
