Katie Couric's Notebook: Texting While Driving

On July 1, California becomes the 27th state, and the biggest, to ban cell phone use by drivers.

It's a good idea. An insurance research group says the risk of a serious crash is four times greater when a driver is on the phone. And drivers aren't just making calls. They're also sending text messages, which can be worse.

Yo KC,
How about a public service message.

"TRASH TEXT TOYS"

alterative:
"TRY TALKING"
"TURN OFF TEXT"
Who knows what will sink in but getting their attention comes before stopping them.

While we can all lambaste insurance companies from time to time, they often have the information to see trends that can harm us.
While I can not personally understand why anyone would want to text at all, doing so while driving is absurd. Laws generally are not effective at stopping such behavior so why not simply take away the source of the problem before your or your kids hurt themselves. Common sense can work sometimes. This is one of those times.
