Obama And The “Country I Love”

The Obama campaign is about to go up with its first television ad of the general election, a 60-second spot titled, “Country I Love” which begins airing in 18 states tomorrow.

The ad is biographical in part but also heavy on the patriotism. “I was raised by a single mom and my grandparents,” Obama says in the ad. “We didn’t have much money, but they taught me values straight from the Kansas heartland where they grew up. Accountability and self-reliance. Love of country. Working hard without making excuses. Treating your neighbor as you’d like to be treated. It’s what guided me as I worked my way up – taking jobs and loans to make it through college.”

The ad ends with this tagline: “I approved this message because I’ll never forget those values, and if I have the honor of taking the oath of office as President, it will be with a deep and abiding faith in the country I love.”

The ad will run in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia. Watch it below:

Obama is hiding from the press: Why?

Politico Ben Smith June 19 2008 reports the following:

News organizations complain about access to Obama

The Times mentioned today a letter from Washington bureau chiefs of six leading news organizations to the Obama campaign, complaining about access and about being deceived by campaign aides.

I''ve obtained a copy of the letter, whose signatories include AP''s Ron Fournier and the late Tim Russert of NBC.

It was sent June 6, after Obama flew his press corps to Chicago and stayed behind to meet Clinton. The news organizations threaten in the letter to withhold payment for the flight.

More broadly, the organizations complain that Obama offers less access to the press even than President Bush, keeping even a single pool reporter out of his security bubble. He also answers relatively few questions, and his agreement to admit reporters to fundraisers remains partial: Last night, the pool reporter, the Washington Post''s Anne Kornblut, reported that she was confined to a Kennedy poolhouse while Obama talked to donors.

Here''s the letter:
To: David Plouffe and Robert Gibbs

There are many ways in a campaign to control your message and conduct private meetings that do not involve deceiving the press corps.

Last night, the press corps traveling with Senator Obama was misled, and was also flown to Chicago without the Senator.

The Washington bureau chiefs of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, NBC News, and the Associated Press strongly protest the events of last night.

To review, the press corps was told the Senator would be in the motorcade from Bristol to the airport. He was not.

Then, the press corps was told the Senator would actually join them at the airport. He did not. When pressed repeatedly, Robert Gibbs and other press aides insisted the Senator was on his way to the airport. He was not.

When the campaign plane took off without the candidate, there were loud protests from the press corps because we were not given the option of staying in Washington. We do not commit to fly on charters to fly with press aides; we make that commitment to fly with the candidate.

Each of our organizations is reviewing whether we will reimburse the campaign for last night''s flight.

The decision to mislead reporters is a troubling one.

We hope this does not presage a relationship with the Obama campaign that is not based on a mutual respect for the truth. Our joint mission is to cover the candidate on behalf of our millions of worldwide viewers and readers.

Those individuals expect truthful and fair coverage from us. Your campaign expects nothing short of that from us as well. Surely we should expect the same from you.

We sincerely hope we can expect a relationship based on mutual trust in the coming months of coverage.

Going forward, we know from experience that covering a presidential campaign requires that some representatives of the press corps be with, or near, the Senator at all times as part of the "security package," just as the White House press corps is with the president.

There may be times when the Senator needs to address the press corps about unexpected and dramatic news events, and there may be times when history demands the press corps be in close proximity to the Senator.

This is standard
operating procedure for the President of the United States, a job to which he aspires, and for presumptive nominees.

We hope to work closely with you on these and other coverage issues throughout the campaign.

When I was in high school we always knew who had a fast car, they did not talk about how fast it was.

We also knew who had a slow car, they talked about how fast it was but it only went slow.

If Obama really loved the US he would not have to say it, it would show.

He acts like he hates the US and all it stands for.

From his religious mentor...

to his reluctance to wear a flag pin on his clothing...

to his reluctnace to salute the flag...

to the many different remarks he has made degrading the American people...

Obama is playing you for a sucker if you believe in him.

Tell me what he stands for and has voted for and has fought for, not what he says he stands for- show me his actions.

Then tell me why you believe in him.

The outright stupidity and ignorance of the claims against Barack are good in a way, because they show how outright stupid and ignorant many of his detractors are. The very idea that he''s not a patriotic American is so absurd, ludicrous and over the top that even claiming it shows the detractor to be a complete boob that no serious American would want to associate with, let alone agree with.

seriousinusa,

You have Obama confused with Representative Keith Ellison of Minnesota.

Ellison is a Muslim and took the oath of office on a Koran that had belonged to Thomas Jefferson.

There are 2 points to consider here:!) Obama is a Christian who was sworn in on the Bible, and 2) Muslim-Americans are also patriots and your insinuation otherwise is what''s un-American.

meanwhile, they still can NEVER ''''explain'''' away michelle obama''''s quote that ''''for the first time in my adult life i''''m proud of my country.'''' it''''s her quote and she said what she said and ''''the first time in my adult life'''' is ''''the first time in my adult life.'''' money-grubbing power-hungry social-climbing jackie wannabeyitch.

No, that is not a correct quote.
She said "REALLY proud". And she later explained that she was talking about the political process, not the whole country.

I suppose you never let any other public figure correct a mis-statement. You probably love Bush and McCain who each have made many more mis-statements.

Yeah, buddy he really loves America when he took the oath of office for the Senate on the Quran instead of the Bible and he refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

These are lies, and if you don''t know it, you''ve been had. If you do know it, then you know what you are.

Yes, HUSSIEN is a Muslim name. In Obama''''s family, it is also a family name.

His Father was a Muslim.
His Grandfather was a Muslim.
His half Brother is an active
Radical Muslim. If you think Obama has a list of questionable ties, you should see his Brother''''s list.

First of all who cares if it is a Muslim name. Being Muslim isn''t a crime. Just like Kennedy being catholic wasn''t a crime. Everything else you said is a lie.

Obama did swear on the bible when he got sworn into the senate also.

Give me a break!

He loves this country so much he''s kept himself separate all his adult life from Americans, preferring to associate with foreigners, including terrorist supporters like Khalidi!

Pshaw! Lying idiot!

Who was the politician who swore in using the Koran? News report from 6/20 had clips of politician''s saying it was not Obama, but I don''t trust politicians. I remember the news story from years ago, but I do not remember who it was. Last night''s broadcast used politicians (unreliable sources). I want to know who it was that used the Koran.
