Groups Push For Clinton As VP, But Jimmy Carter's Not On Board

A day after Hillary Clinton told New York lawmakers she would be "open" to becoming Barack Obama's running mate, Clinton loyalist Lanny Davis has begun a petition drive to encourage Obama to create a unity ticket, The LA Times reports.

Davis, who attended Yale Law School with Clinton and helped defend Bill Clinton during the impeachment episode, has called on Obama to select Clinton since "she would be, by far, the most qualified and strongest candidate to be your running mate."

Davis isn't the only prominent Democratic voice who has launched an effort to persuade Obama to offer his former rival the vice presidential slot. Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television and owner of the Charlotte Bobcats NBA franchise sent a letter to Congressional Black Caucus Chairman and House Majority Whip James Clyburn calling on the Black Caucus to push for Obama to select Clinton.

“You can't find in an historic election two more dynamic, inspiring people who could lead this country and lead the Democratic Party for years to come,” Johnson wrote.

Furthermore, CBS News chief political consultant Marc Ambinder reported last night that Clinton's campaign manager Maggie Williams a few weeks ago quietly endorsed an effort by two former Clinton staffers to launch a draft unity ticket called "VoteBoth".

But don't expect former president Jimmy Carter to get behind any of these efforts. Carter told the UK's Guardian newspaper that an Obama/Clinton ticket "would be the worst mistake that could be made."

Carter said he would have been just as much against a joint ticket had Clinton won the nomination but said that negative views of Clinton in wide swaths of the country would significantly damage Obama's chances in November.

"If you take that 50% who just don't want to vote for Clinton and add it to whatever element there might be who don't think Obama is white enough or old enough or experienced enough or because he's got a middle name that sounds Arab, you could have the worst of both worlds," Carter said.

All of that Clinton, Arab Money and Bill`s Dubai (United Arab Emirates) Partnership Will KILL Obama`s Election !!

With Carter, almost every of his political decisions have not been good. However, he is great as an ex-president with building homes for the poor.

She will definitely have him offed if she becomes VP. She is evil. Too many people close to the Clintons have already "disappeared"or committed suicide. Best to stay as far away from them as possible!!! Losing the election is better than losing your life!

I''m a 34 year old white female Republican. Barack has my vote as long as Clinton stays off the ticket. If he chooses Clinton as running mate, I will vote McCain.

I think McCain (good health though he may have, and many views that parallel mine) is to old. For good or bad, and we never know till after the election (the current Bush being and excellent example of that). I want new young blood.

Amongst my peers, and several of my seniors who have never voted anything but Republican in their lives, we are all ready to vote Barack. If he chooses Clinton, we will go with our own party.

I have yet to see this issue addressed on any of the Sunday news forums. My group cannot be the only Republicans thinking this way. Rebublicans, young and old ready to break from the party for Barack (without Clinton), are we really that small a minority?

Are there that many Clinton Democrats who would actually choose McCain over Barack without Clinton as a running mate? I find that hard to believe.

I would love to see one of the Sunday news forums take up this whole issue, even if briefly. Does not seem likely to happen, but still.

it would be the biggest error in history to have her on the same ticket. Even if this tickets wins, there is no way it will get a second term. Bill is a big factor and it would be a dog-eat-dog situation in the WH. You can''t tell the "king" to live in the dog''s kennel when he has been dethroned. Besides, Obama''a and Hillary''s personalities would be like dog and cat/oil and water. No way!!

Hillary and Bill Clinton could never play the #2 role - Obama''s presidency would end up running like a three ring circus.
I think she made a very clear statement last night that she really isn''t a team player or someone who is easy to work with. If Obama wants a presidency of his own he must say NO to Hillary. He will need something to draw in her supporters though - such as Kathleen Sebelius from Kansas.

Enough with the nasty stuff. It''s over. 18 million supported Clinton because they preferred her over Obama. You''re not going to get even 1/2 of them without her on the ticket. Do you want to win this election or are you just satisfied with a nomination? Cool down your rhetoric and start thinking sensibly. Whatever it takes to win. Those sneaky republicans are planning a massacre and Obama will need Clinton''s help to win this. You''d better decide what color you want the electoral map to be in November. It turns red very fast on election nite unless you are well equipped with the finest candidates. Obama/Clinton is the best the Dems can offer to the voters. And she values loyalty more than anything else so you can be sure that she would be his best asset.

Good! Glad Carter''s not on board!

Hillary needs to stay away from the candidate put in by the DNC dictators!

Let the republicans have at him! It will keep her out of the dirt that''s going to heaped on him when they reveal all his corruption!

She needs not to be a part of that!

Clinton supporters are extremely upset, and understandably so - however, once Hillary stops fanning the flames by holding on to some ridiculous notion that she is not done, then the emotion will wear away and common sense will prevail and the majority will still vote democratic because they know they that the policy differences between Obama and Hillary are really quite small in comparison to McCains,

Great post...and I sincerely hope that your Sunday forum gets picked up by one of the networks because as a life-long democrat, I to believe that Hillary should NOT be his VP selection for more reasons than I care to list here.

I do applaud your efforts and mindset for wanting to bring ALL Americans together for common causes...we are Americans first and this country needs healing on all fronts and I also believe that this movement is the result of young people such as yourselves that want real change and not more of the same!

A 2008 Obama Clinton ticket is a poisoned chalice partnership.

Now Presidential candidate Obama must reveal how hope and change can be actualized, one issue at a time. We have heard the talk, its time to walk the walk.

Senator Obama DO NOT do it.

DNC, voters, and you as ultimate winning party nominee owe this defacto former candidate absolutely anything.

The political game has been played and there can only be ONE Democratic candidate.

Not the one who won and a hanger on ulcerating appendage.

Avoid this Vice President selection like the plague. After any honeymoon, the four year joint venture would be a national I told you so political family feud disaster.

Senator Obama, you have come so far on the tidal wave of hope and change enthusiasm you alone generated.

Do not fall in to the old political trap or game of being obligated or hoodwinked into a forced VP nominee to appease anyone. Stand by your own winning ethos of change.

Do not get conquest tunnel vision and select this VP option it will undermine all ardent effort exerted to convince America that you are more than all talk about change.

Its your call, however this is the first bona fide test of you to be true to your words and offer us something different with your deeds. VP choice is your first best impression to be a worthy change agent. Actions speak louder than words.

Prove your critics wrong. Do not disappoint your loyal supporters.

Hillary has no class whatever. She never congratulated Obama; she never conceded. All she has done has been to try to exert pressure by mentioning the ("eighteen million who voted for me.") She would never accept the VP position for the simple reason neither she or her husband would withstand a vetting; too much scandal and scheming in their backgrounds.

Now I hope all the Hillary Huggers out there can understand why she remained in the race and "Championed" your right to vote through the entire primary process. NOT that she cares one bit about you - only to use your vote as a poker chip to get something for herself.
I have to assume that the "LEAK" yesterday about wanting to be the VP on the ticket was a ruse, because her actions last night ended any notion that the Obama camp would be willing to take her on.
She showed herself for what she is, a coniving, manipulative, classless shrew with NO REGARD for anyone or anything except Hillary herself.

2 things, one his speech was already prepared and he spoke about 7 minutes after she got done.

AND he is actually interested in party unity, if he didn''t give her props it would have come back to bite him in spades.

It is reported that billionaire George Soros has been financing Obama''s campaign since 2006, buying up Democratic Party and Democratic Super delegates for Obama resulting in his presumptive nominee status.
Is this why Pelosi, Reid and Dean still harassing uncommitted super delegates to commit by this Friday when the DNC Super Delegate Rule is: their votes will not count until August''s convention? The DNC process allows candidates to go to convention where debates shows the country the better candidate should then be voted and nominated. Are Pelosi, Reid and Dean scared that Hillary will outshine Obama''s thin resume, lack of experience and questionable associates in his background again?

Given how Obama refused to count MI and FLA votes, refused to re-vote and super delegates bought for him, can''t help but think the DNC is guilty in vote fraud crimes. Are Pelosi, Reid and Dean being paid off by billionaire George Soros to sabotage the party and give election to GOP? Soros'' donations are also known in GOP circles. Hmmm...

How Soros Financed Obama''s Campaign%u20145/30/08 (LPAC)--In 2006, billionaire George Soros vetted Barack Obama''s Presidential candidacy with financier oligarchs and Obama announced he seeks the White House. Soros met with Obama in March, Soros%u2019 spokesman Michael Vachon (quoted by CNS News, July 27, 2004) and fundraised for his U.S. senate and through the 2007 Presidential campaign with huge operations of inner circle of millionaires.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH

your right, all the superdelegates were paid off in 2006 - they were just a little slow in announcing for him - say 2 years slow!!!

Yep, Dean and Pelosi got paid off to sanction Florida and Michigan - of course Hillary must have been too since she agreed to it.

Are you saying that went back on their word and didn''t pay Hillary like arranged and thats why she contested the sanctions.

Get a life pal - the conspiracy angle is really getting old.

HILLARY LOST - she didn''t understand the value of the internet for fund raising, she underestimated her opponent, and over bought into the primaries just being a coronation of her to the nomination.
SHE LOST THE RACE, no conspiracy, no piracy, SHE LOST THE RACE beacause she ran a lousy campaign.

01/15/07: Wolf introduced Obama to Jim Torrey, Brian Mathis, Jamie Rubin, and (again, from the original Soros meeting) Orin Kramer

03/07: 2 fundraisers by Wolf and one by Edgar Bronfman, Jr.--

03/15/07: Soros began a staged fraud dance with Obama. Writing in NY Review of Books, Soros denounced the rightist Israeli lobby, AIPAC.

03/21/07: One week later, continuing fraud dance, the Obama rebutted Soros (as in, "Obama distances himself from Soros"), and denounced the Hamas movement

04/09/07: Fundraiser at home of elite financier Steven Gluckstern, the former chairman of George Soros'' Democracy Alliance. A photo of event published (4/16/07) in NY magazine

05/18/07: Obama fundraiser hosted at mansion of Paul Tudor Jones, giant hedge fund Tudor Investment Corp and collected $690,000 from 300 attendees reported by Greenwich Times.
