Obama Rebuffs Republican Attack on His Foreign Policy

(CBS)

From CBS News’ Maria Gavrilovic:

ROSEBURG, ORE. -- Barack Obama told Oregon voters today that George Bush and John McCain have to explain their “problem” with Kennedy, Reagan, and Nixon, as he continued to defend his support of direct diplomacy with rogue leaders.

“If George Bush and John McCain have a problem with direct diplomacy, led by the President of the United States, then they can explain why they have a problem with John F. Kennedy, because that’s what he did with Khrushchev, or Ronald Reagan, because that’s what he did with Gorbachev, or Richard Nixon, because that’s what he did with Mao,” Obama said at small town hall meeting here.

He called the controversy surrounding President Bush’s appearance at the Knesset yesterday a “foreign policy dust up,” and described the comments made as “appalling”. “A president, as a general rule, does not use a foreign country to make political attacks, we are supposed to be united when we leave our borders,” Obama said. “We can have our differences here.”

Obama linked McCain to Bush’s foreign policy positions, portraying it a “so-called tough foreign policy” which he says the presumptive Republican nominee has embraced. He told the crowd to vote for McCain if they agree with those ideas. “If you agree that we’ve had a great foreign policy over the last four, eight years, then you should vote for John McCain, you shouldn’t vote for me,” Obama said.

In an e-mail statement to reporters, the McCain campaign accused Obama of “missing the point” of the debate. “Sen. Obama is missing the point, it’s the ‘unconditional’ that’s unacceptable. Barack Obama’s pledge to unconditionally bring Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the world stage isn’t ‘new politics,’ it’s incredibly weak judgment and reveals why Americans will elect John McCain’s record of experience, and tested leadership. We are a nation rooted in a history of sacrifice and achievement, not in candidates who offer nothing but lofty rhetoric and campaign promises.”

Why on earth does anybody think we should choose our next President from the Senate? The Congress is just as much to blame for our current condition as the President is. Congress has an extremely low approval rating, too. What has the Senate done for any of us lately? Neither Obama or McCain has been able to exercise the leadership needed to make the Senate productive. Neither Obama or McCain has authored legislation that has made any real difference to the economy, healthcare, education, dependence on foreign oil, or anything else that helps us in our daily lives. We need a candidate that is not part of the current gridlock in Washington D.C. We need somebody who has had executive experience as a successful governor or mayor or we need a sucessful business person. We don''t just need to hear talk of change--we need real change.

McCain will look bad on the campaign trail between here and November. So far he has been in staged "debate" chats with Republicans. When you put him up against Clinton or Obama, it will be obvious that he never knew much and knows even less now.

I think old age is already cacthing up with this man McCain and he couldn%u2019t remember what he''s said just a few years ago, how does he intend to rule the US? President of the United State must have sharp mind and good judgement to provide the world with good leadership, this senile Old man is not capable of this task, it is way above his league,
The best he''s got to offer is the continuation of President Bush''s destruction of America''s security by courting disrespect world wide and seriously compromised the strength and might of America by destroying the economy. The US economy now is at the mercy of the Arab, the Chinese etc. The founding fathers of America will turn in their graves at the actions of their prodigal sons Bush and McCain and marvel at what they''ve done to this country, both of them should go and hang their heads in shame, they''ve got blood of young America men and women on their hands, also they''ve go the blood of millions of dead Iraq''s on their hands. Both should be tried for war crime. Shame, shame, shame on John McCain, he''s not worthy to tie Barrack''s shoe lace, if with all his experience, how come he made the wrong judgement by voting for the war and Obama as inexperience as he his was able to make the right judgement and voted against. This shows that experience count for less when it comes to making good judgement. The dinosaurs like McCain are the cause of the entire world''s problems,

John McCain is a remarkably dishonest man and is not worth to be the US president; he must have a very short memory, what with all the garbage that is spewing out from his mouth about Barrack Obama.
I couldn%u2019t believe my eyes after watching this interview with Rubin on sky website here. Check this out.

Bush foreign policy has been an utter failure of unmitigated proportions never seen in the history of this country. Bush suggesting that Democrats are Nazi appeasers from Israel, a foreign country is a black eye on every citizen in this country. Bush is an embarrassment and I count the days until he is out of office. McCain suggesting that anyone who does not agree with Bush foreign policy is a Chamberlain is outrageous! McCain not 2 years ago said we should diplomatically deal with Hamas! McCain wants to continue the same Bush foreign policy that has not made us safer nor Israel safer. Iran and Bin Laden are stronger than they ever were because of Bush foreign policy.

You want more of the same, vote McCain.

My vote is for Obama.
