N.C. Stations Won't Air Controversial Ad Linking Wright And Obama

As we noted in a story today, John McCain has called on the Republican Party of North Carolina not to run a controversial ad criticizing two state Democratic gubernatorial candidates for endorsing Barack Obama.

The spot, which you can see here, calls Obama "too extreme" for the state and shows Obama's former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, exclaiming "God Damn America." The North Carolina branch of the NAACP has suggested the ad is injecting "racial sentiments" into the campaign.

Now the Charlotte Observer is reporting that two of the state's television stations are refusing to air the ad, which the state party says it still plans to run.

"I just don't think it's appropriate to be on our air," the general manager of one of the stations told the paper. "I think it's offensive, and I'm not real comfortable with the implications around race."

The stations have a legal right not to air the ad, but Brent Woodcox, the state party's spokesman, told the Observer the decision was disappointing.

"You're going down a very dark path that could end up saying, 'these are the kinds of things you can say in a political debate, and these are the kinds of things you can't,'" he said. "Those aren't the principles this country was founded on."

Will Obama denounce and reject this censorship? Or does "Freedom of speech" only apply to Pastor Wright and Obama''s associates? And the "General" who accused Bill Clinton of McCarthyism?

People in our country are sick and tired of the slash and burn politics of the Republican party. Freedom of speech is one thing, but slash and burn gossip mongering tabeloid trash politics is another. Barack Obama is the only candidate who can take our country away from the politics of hate and fear, and in to a new era of hope and change. I encourage the people in North Carolina to vote for Barack Obama in the primary, and lets get a Democrat win in November!

VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA AND LETS GET A DEMOCRAT WIN IN NOVEMBER!

Hillary lies again.

The Federal Election Commission has just reported that her campaign debt is $15 million and not $10 million as the Clinton camp reported because she failed to list her $5 million loan among the debts.

This means that even after her new surge of fundraising, she is still $5 million in debt; but Hillary is still smiling; why? Because she knows that her $110 million fortune is nice and safe. It%u2019s the ordinary person on the street who is tricked into losing money on a campaign that is doomed to fail.

Mitt Romney put $42 million of his own money into his campaign, why doesn%u2019t Hillary show she has complete confidence in her campaign and put in some of her own millions. Why? Because she knows it%u2019s a lost cause.

Those of you who are fooled into contributing to her campaign ask yourself why she LOANS her own money but wants you to GIVE your money?

Just for kicks and grins, we are going to have a little constitutional lesson here for the kiddies.
Freedom of speech, as defined by our Constitution (remember that), means that the GOVERNMENT can not censor citizens speech, the GOVERNMENT. On occasion they do, but that is a whole other argument. When you own a business, as the television station owns their business, they can censor anything they want, it is their paper. They are not the GOVERNMENT. The Repubican party of NC is a customer buying air time. The station can sell the time or not. They are not the GOVERNMENT.
Now, as you suggested, people that are against this decision can boycott the advertisers that air on those stations to show their displeasure. It might work, it might not. That is their right.

The TV stations can also be sued if they allow ads from their competitors, but do allow accept their ads.

But regardless of the law, it is a gutless move by the Obama supporting TV station...and is unethical.

Not neccessarily. (The suit part) A station can deny content that they feel violates their code of ethics. They can air content from a competitor that does not violate the stations ethical content policy. Now, anyone can sue, but they wouldn''t win.

Now, as to the gutless Obama supporting station. I don''t know if they support Obama or not, and you probably don''t know either. As to the "gutless" part that depends. If the majority of their viewers are right-wingers, then it would be a brave thing to do because they would risk advertising dollars by displeasing their customers. As to the "unethical" it is the North Carolina Republican party that is unethical. Now, and in 2000 when they attacked John McCain and his family, calling him a traitor to his country, that he had a mixed race child out of wedlock, and that his wife was mentally ill. You decide who is ethical.

What is racist about showing what a black church and congregation feel about America? They sell the tapes for money so they must be proud of Wright? People that sit in a church for twenty years of sermons and don''t have a clue what the preacher and the church stand for would have to been lobotomized.

WASHINGTON - The good news for Hillary Rodham Clinton is that she%u2019s winning a lot of battles. The bad news is that the war is pretty much lost.

Sure, she won Pennsylvania%u2019s April 22 primary by a strong 9 points in the face of being outspent on television ads by Barack Obama 2-to-1. She also won Ohio, Rhode Island, and at least the primary part of the bizarre %u201CTexas two-step%u201D primary-and-caucus combination on March 4.

But today, she is 133 delegates behind Obama, 1,728 to 1,595, according to NBC News. At this point last week, she trailed by 136 delegates.

Since then Clinton has scored a net gain of 10 delegates in Pennsylvania, according to NBC, but has lost a few more superdelegates, so she has made little headway.

Hillary''s first defeat! Hillary would the first beneficiary. She must be SOOOOOOO disappointed. Why Republicans are helping Hillary?

"In 2004, it is pretty obvious that Hillary did nothing to help John Kerry beyond giving a speech at the convention and waging a token campaign on his behalf. Bill did even less. Their goal was obvious: they wanted Kerry to lose to Bush so that Hillary could run in 2008. Is she playing the same game now? Only time will tell." - by *** Morris served as Bill Clinton''s political consultant for twenty years, guiding him to a successful reelection in 1996.

pesojoe,

What''s racist is that the picture is being distorted for political gain.

The tapes that the Church sells aren''t the tapes being shown. The message is being framed to attack the entire Church, not just Wright & Obama.

When the abuse crisis initially broke in the Catholic Church the Pope made some remarks which could be interpreted as downplaying the issue.

Would it be fair to take these comments out of context and play them over and over and argue that all Catholics support child abuse?

Ah yes. So the antichrist remarks are here which is ridiculous foolishness. 1. Obama is not a Muslim. 2. Even if he were the Bible does not say that the anti-christ will be a Muslim. 3. The Muslim faith did not even exist when Revelations was written. 4. Obama is not an Arab which some people interpret it to say. But reputable scholars from mainstream churches (not extremists from cult-like Christian denominations) agree that Revelations is actually six parallel visions not one continuous one. (which one is right?) Knowledge goes a long way towards dispelling ignorance.

Also Ayers accepted responsibility for his crimes and served his time. (Didn''t mean to rhymne). Yet all the right-wingers wanted to give Kathleen Soliah who also believed in overthrowing the government (and who was captured did not willingly accept responsibility as Ayers did) a free pass because she had become a Christian. Sounds about right for the hypocritical conservatives to me.

Colin and Rice aren''t running for anything and have made it clear that they do not want to. As much as you like to see people vote for the best candidate, both women and African-Americans have waited a long time to have a candidate for the highest office in the land. So in a way I understand. It''s important to them. Whomever the Dems pick will be a first. Every group wants their guy or girl to be the first.

Its sad in America when we cannot have free speech without being afraid of alienating people of certain colors, or race. Its our right to know that is fundamental here because we cannot make sound choices without free speech. Its apparent in this election process that race has been at the center point of all "questionable" questions to ask, or probe for. Therefore making Obama off limits to how much we get to know about him, including his past. But people tend to forget that he also has white blood in his veins. So saying he is black, when he is actually biracial, is avoiding scrutiny of his past, and using race to win votes. This tells me he knows hes inexperienced, but yet feels hes entitled to it because of his race. So,off limits to him, but make sure we keep it front and center for Hillary so she, nor McCain as it seems now, can use it against him. The more we know about him, the more I fear him and how much damage he has done to our countrys battle with racism. We had made strides in this area of our culture and he has now placed them back to the stone age. And if he feels this is the way to White House, then his stay wont last long because his message of change, is only about him, and not about us. And people will see that the longer the election process goes on. So, go Hillary. I would rather have someone I know is out there fighting for me than someone I know is out there fighting for himself.

Now there is a media censorship too. Aren''t those news and facts that people should know before election?

When there is a 92% of black population voting for a brother, you must be aware that it is not a matter of issue but race. When you hear OBAMA denigrating the very good economic record of the only Democratic administration most Americans remember; the Clintons'' 90s. There is no problem with folks like James Clyburn. But when Bill was resented about the 92% of Black community voting against Hillary, they were upset over Bill''s remarks. The black community is entitled to the presidency while the typical white people clings on guns and church because of bitterness. Double standard I call it. Racial discrimination, isn''t it?

While guys like OBAMA behind a podium may promise you the moon, you have no right to question about his past history with dangerous villains and extremists. Negativity means that you have no right to say anything about a politician who claims to change WASHINGTON while he has never been a factor in Congress or Senate, not of any leadership in bipartisan drive and major causes. If that is being positive, I find negativity acceptable and safe for the country.

Glaring Racism Appears and nobody should comment because the black community would vote against any typical white person. It is a terror in nightmares that OBAMA brings us into.

They don''t want facts be known. They find these offensive. You have seen nothing yet. Brother!!!
