McCain Talks About Veep Search; Suggests Quayle Wasn't Fully Prepared

(CBS)
From CBS News' Dante Higgins:

John McCain followed up on his comments from earlier today when he said his vice presidential search is just beginning.

On the back of his bus McCain told reporters he is starting to collect a list of names to select a running mate from.

“It’s every name imaginable as you might know,” he joked. McCain said the list has about 20 names on it and the people on the list don’t know their names listed.

“I’d love to do it earlier rather than later but it depends on the process and you know we just really haven’t gotten far enough along in that whole thing,” he said. McCain would like to have a running mate before the Republican convention in September to avoid being rushed into a decision then.

“Some of the mistakes that I saw made in reviewing this process is that they waited until the last minute and then it was kind of rushed and sometimes you get unintended consequences,” McCain said. “Like when President Bush chose Dan Quayle, Dan Quayle had not been briefed and prepared for some had questions but I’m a great friend of Dan Quayle’s and I think he was a fine Senator.

McCain says his camp has asked a couple of people to head this effort but he hasn’t chosen anyone yet or made any decisions. “It just in such an embryonic stage,” he said.

Governor Charlie Crist of Florida is your best bet OLD man. He can actually stay awake during critical intelligence briefings vital to America''s safety. Not to mention he may bring Florida''s rich electoral votes too.

A Vote for John McCain will keep Richard Cheney in charge and $Billions of Dollars flowing to Halliburton in Dubai where the banking system launders tax monies from Americans.
