Is Rice Positioning Herself As A Possible Veep Pick?

(AP)
There is a tantalizing new tidbit in the speculation over who will be John McCain's vice presidential pick: Steve Clemons reports that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is speaking at a high-powered Republican gathering run by Grover Norquist this morning.

Why is this significant? According to Clemons' tipster: "Someone like Condi Rice doesn't go to Grover Norquist's den to talk about the Annapolis Middle East peace process. She's going to secure her future in Republican politics and to position herself as a 'potential' VP candidate on the McCain ticket."

McCain's veep pick will come under particular scrutiny because of his age – he would be 72 when sworn in, the oldest president ever to enter the office. That fact has led to speculation that McCain will choose a young running mate – possibly, as the Associated Press reported yesterday, 47-year-old Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.

McCain has other considerations as well, however. Conservatives skeptical of McCain are looking for him to pick someone to shore up their support – perhaps former rival Mitt Romney, with whom, it's worth noting, he had an acrimonious relationship on the campaign trail. Other names on thought to be on the short list include another former rival, Mike Huckabee, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

If you like war, corruption, deaths and destruction.
You must love the GOP2008.

A vote for John McCain is a vote for war,

High energy costs
Higher costs of living
High health care costs and prescription drugs
Higher taxes for the middle class and lower taxes for the very wealthy
High government spending
Lack of public programs, infrastructure maintenance, and education

We%u2019ve already experienced these policies during the Bush/Cheney administration,
Did I mention endless war?

Oh isn''t this a surprise, Someone that has all the personality of a dead tree being VP of the republican party. Well its not entirely something new, this one just would wear a skirt. Better watch your back John McCain, she would take you out in a heart beat, so she could be the President. So think hard on this one for V.P.

I think it''s funny how librals can come on this page and post negitive comments about possible vp canadiats when ther party can''t even come up with a nominee. Besides a vote for either billary or what''s his name would mean nothing short of higher taxes for everyone and more pork spending.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
As head of NSA, she was ''asleep at the wheel'' in the months leading up to 911, ignoring rpts/info being passed to her from underlings!
As Secretary of State, she''s helped Bush push his unholy war!
NO, I don''t think she''s qualified!

I said I''d vote for McCain if Hillary gets the nom but with a caveat--not if Huckabee the far right preacher--was on the ticket--now I have to add, that I will not go for McCain if Rice is on the ticket. No architect of the Iraq war should ever get near to power ever again. If Hillary gets the nom from the Dems, and McCain runs with Rice--guess for the first time in decades, I''ll sit this one out.

Next to Donald Rumsfeld, she''s arguably the biggest ''foul up'' in the Bush administration! The only reason she''s stayed on---presumably, is that she can keep her mouth shut when it comes to all the illegal stuff this administration has done!

NO, failure borne of deceit, should never qualify anyone to be president OR vice-president!

Put her on the ticket and see how many people vote for it!

I''d be very surprised if Condi decided to run on the ticket. It''s just not like her. But what I have found most curious is the fact that this country has never acknowledged Condi who is both black and a woman as holding one of the highest offices - Secretary of State - in any Administration. She has quite a resume. So I tend to find Hillary and Barack as being neither novel or innovative.

What will all the crackers do?

They won''t whether to S or GB!

No one can be more responsible for the foreign policy failure or closely tied to El Presidente...

If you think in terms of gender or race--then you have a point, but if you think in terms of each persons character and message as well as the office they are pursuing and how--then Hillary and Obama ARE making history. The thing about other races, that many whites do not know--is that these races really do not want special treatment--they want the same treatment. But they know without special programs or gov. stepping in, they are not likely to get that. For Condileeza Rice or Collin Powell or Barack or Gonzalez or Richardson--the worst thing you can do is trot them out like a pony bragging about how the GOP or the Dems placed one of their kind in a higher position of power. "Their kind" They are just people, just like we are. So when they are really equal, their color won''t come up, their ethnicity or gender won''t come up, their character will be the thing and the job that they hold--that''s when we as Americans will know we are licking the racial/sexist hurdle, when WE stop thinking, measuring and judging each other in those terms.

That will be a losing ticket for the repubs. A lot of people were planning to vote for McCain because they have a problem voting for a woman or a black man. But if McCain chose a black woman as his VP then those folks will just sit this election out.....

The potential of Condi for VP is a bombshell to Democrats for obvious reasons---they get over-trumped with a most competent female who just happens to be black. The Dems are going to squeal like stuck pigs and their only answer is to bring out madeup or generalized stereotypical slings and arrows. Elizabeth Dole would make a good choice as well but she can''t match up to Condi.

Senator McCain should act in a moral way when choosing his running-mate and select a pro-life candidate. The GOP has been a pro-life party for many years and has won a multitude of elections endorsing this sacred right. The Republican Party has millions of pro-life adherents and if a pro-choice vice-presidential candidate was chosen,it would split the party.I deeply believe in the right to life and that is an enormous reason why I will vote for him in the general election.I think he will stand by his principles and select a pro-life candidate for Vice-President.

As this article states: "McCain''s veep pick will come under particular scrutiny because of his age," and if McCain selects Pawlenty simply because of Pawlenty''s age, it would stand to reason that the skeletons in the closet will begin to surface and will haunt and take down McCain with Pawlenty. It would be wise for McCain to look at Pawlenty''s "secret meeting" Minnesota Supreme Court Justice appointees where former MN Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson had secret meetings with two (2) MN Supreme Court Justices surnamed Anderson wherein Pawlenty appointed two (2) out of the three (3) MN Supreme Court Justices with the surname Anderson. Obviously Pawlenty appointed one of the three, but perhaps he appointed both of the secret meeting justices.

An interesting perspective, but regardless of party affiliation, the President represents all the people. The sad fact is, this is more often forgotten than remembered. What an amazing concept compromise and a genuine attempt to serve all Americans. Hmmm. I dare say, not this century.

Rice would be an excellent choice. She is definitely a woman of character and courage. She is the kind of person I could point to and say to my children, "This is the kind of person I would like you to be." I could say the same of McCain. I would be happy with them as Pres. and VP.

I think Obama is a very gifted speaker, but I have to admit, he has not acted with courage in respect to his church situation.
I just don''t think he''s proven himself to be in the same league as these two individuals.

Condi has real liabilities - completely Bush all over for one. Didn''t listen to those who warned about the Iraq war etc and an undistinguishable record since.
Liberman too is undesirable. Too bland - can barely get his words out. Boring!
Huckabee would be good - he has personality like Reagan did. Romney would be a losing venture - theyd just play back the clips of his dirty ads against mccain - the last thing in the world americans want is an ultra conservative poseur who says anything to anybody.
Gov Crist has personality. So does Jack Kempf. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Elizabeth Dole intrigue me. Colin Powell would be a reassuring presence on the ticket. Christopher Cox is beguiling. So many to choose from. But both Romney and Rice represent the old politics of snowing the people.
That''s why Huckabee will last - he doesn''t believe in hoodwinking you - he''s just himself - with a wink.

courage without wisdom equals a fool hardy person who blunders around the world, making things worse than they are..

Courage without honor is a bully. Which is sort of the name we give to people who pick on or start fights with others who have done nothing to them.

Given the state of the world and what we have done to Iraq--these 2 have demonstrated both courage and lack of wisdom and questionable honor--the real perversion of course, comes from when we see both of these types of "courage" as heroic. There is nothing at all heroic about invading a country based on lies, killing a lot of people, fvcking it up, and then patting ourselves on the back for the clean up job that is now needed due to our actions.

Governor Crist is your only chance OLD man McCain. He can help you carry Florida, and should you fall asleep during those critical intelligence briefings America can rest easy knowing that Governor Crist can adequately take up the slack. If you choose that girl Rice, the 2008 presidential race will be a joke on the Republicans when you fail to carry a single state. So, please be smart and choose Governor Crist, so at least after we beat you guys in November no one will remember it as a 50-0 blow-out, but as a competitive race. Our camp takes no joy in beating an OLD man and a girl. Come strong or go take a nap OLD man. The Obama shuffle will steamroll you!!!
