Clinton Campaign Digs Into Obama’s Past

(CBS)

From CBS News' Fernando Suarez:

HOUSTON -- While Hillary Clinton stood before reporters boasting about how this has been “an incredibly positive campaign,” her senior campaign staff has been organizing a big effort to expose Barack Obama’s relationship with Tony Rezko, a businessman and Obama donor currently on trial in Chicago.

“As Democrats begin voting in Ohio, in Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont, there are many, many, many, many more questions than answers from Senator Obama with regards to the Rezko matter,” said Clinton Communication Director Howard Wolfson. “Democrats have the right to know the answers to these questions.”

Obama responded to some of the questions about his relationship with Rezko yesterday. “What is true is that I entered into a real estate transaction with him, I bought a strip of land at an adjacent property that he had purchased and I said that that was a mistake because at that point there was already a cloud over Tony Rezko’s head,” Obama explained. “And I’ve been very open that I called it a boneheaded move. On the other hand, there have been no allegations that I did anything wrong, there have been no allegations that I betrayed the public trust.”

That wasn’t good enough for the Clinton campaign. “The fact that Senator Obama is refusing to answer the most basic of questions should really send alarms off around the newsrooms across America,” said Deputy Communication Director Phil Singer. The Clinton campaign has been pushing reporters to ask Obama more detailed questions about his relationship with Rezko, and several organizations have put in requests for one-on-one time with Obama.

The candidate herself was busy making last minute stops. She visited a polling location in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in Houston with actor and friend Ted Danson and his wife Mary Steenburgen. After a quick meet and greet with supporters, Clinton held an impromptu press conference about the importance of Texas and Ohio. “These are two really critical states,” she said. “You don’t get to the White House without winning Ohio and we’re going to put Texas in play.”

Dear Abby,

I have a dilemma. I am about to remodel my house and I can''t decide between two different contractors. One is a lady I''ve known for years. I''ve seen several of the houses she has remodeled and I like her work very much. The other is a guy I recently met. He hasn''t ever really remodeled a house but he speaks with a lot of excitement and he seems to have a lot of good ideas. I want to have a nice, well-built, safe house for my children. Which contractor do you think I should hire?

Why did John Edwards not endorse Obama?????
That is pure hypocrisy or should I say RACISM?????
They all had similar views almost (at least from what Edwards portrayed) but we are all scratching our heads whether he really meant all the talk or was just looking for votes!!!!!!

What if?

Hillary R. Clinton sold out the democratic party for a chance at the white house in 2012. With the help of cross over conservative republicans voters , urged on by media republicans who suggested their vote would be better spent in extending the democratic nomination, she gained a slim popular vote victory in TX and a ten point win in Ohio. As a result the democratic party is now split with HRC vowing to take her fight all the way to the convention floor. The republican party now has the advantage of several months in which to galvanize support from its conservative base. By abandoning the conservative candidate and getting behind Hillary, the conservative base also showed its unified endorsement of John McCain. Mike Huckabee made it official with a closing endorsement. From this point on Hillary will stay in the race splitting the party for the remaining primaries. Her negative campaign will hopefully (for the republicans) will damage Obama just enough for the unified republican party to get a %u201CBush like%u201D victory in November. McCain (a scapegoat for the republicans) will be hated as President because he will lead us into war world III. Then HRC will get the white house in 2012.

The Republicans are down in Texas trying to bust up the caucuses.

Why do you think HRC got such a big up tick in White Male Voters in TX and Ohio?
I am supporting Obama. I will not be moved by fear or smear tactics.

TORONTO %u2014 Canada%u2019s conservative government said Tuesday it was investigating the leak of a memo that suggested Barack Obama%u2019s harsh words about the North American Free Trade Agreement were for political show.

The memo circulated within the government and obtained by The Associated Press

Harper has disputed the suggestion that his government was trying to complicate Obama%u2019s chances or favor Republican Sen. John McCain, who strongly supports NAFTA.

Obama has played the nice guy for too long.Clinton has stated that she is the one tough enough to withstand the republican attacking machinery, but ironically, she whines about the media and cries when she seem to be falling, America should wake up to this. Obama should now use the Rezko connection with the Clintons and let the public get an inner view behind the picture taken with Rezko, Hillary and Bill Clinton. Obama camp wake up. Look deep into the Hillary Closet you gonna find something dirty.

Clinton hides everything and insist that people probe nto Obamas background. I am sure there are two or three bad deals in her past. Its time Obama starts playing dirty tactics as Clinton.

The way it is being played out right now I see a huge win for McCain. Democrats need to stop ******* and pull there party together!

Hillary has dominated the news cycle the way she wanted to at long last. But it looks like with all that effort and and negative campaigning she might at best only garner a split. What was she thinking when she called states that she lost in as not being significant? What was she thinking when she didn''t campaign in caucus states, and then Bill saying that those who participate in these states are well to do, and don''t need a presiedent but a Cause? If she would have campaigned in those states we probably would be talking about how it''s do-or-die for Obama. So what does Hillary do to dominate the news cycle? Smear, denigrate, misrepresent Obama''s character, and insinuate that he is an ''empty screen''. The Clinton camp threw enough bricks, bottles and sticks to fill the Ohio Valley at Obama, and he still comes away in good shape. Keep up the good work.

It should be obvious by now, that the guy knows the value of, and how to manage a buck, unlike your Shrillery. She must have burned through a few million in pant suits and doughnuts. You Clintoniacs, you just can''t seem to grasp the obvious, any wonder why you''ve been getting drubbed here these passed few weeks?

It is so obvious the media has been biased toward Obama. Never dare to ask tough questions. I also heard that Obama runs a very tight campaign - does not allow any staffers to interact with the reporters directly and does not allow to answer any questions that are not approved by him. Wait until Republicans dig up his dirty deals with Rezko. He paid $300,000 below asking price for his fancy house? I wonder how that came about.

The Rezko thing will be bigger news if Obama is the nominee - just in time for buyer''''s remorse!

There are few things I find more ironic than Hillary Clinton assailing a vast left wing media conspiracy, while making innuendos about a land deal from a decade ago.

If the press had been presenting news on the election in an unbiased manner neither candidate would have had to resort to "digging up" the TRUTH. That is supposed to be the job of journalists, but instead the press has been treating this race like a H.S. popularity contest.

Last minute strategy: pile on the dirt faster than Obama can dig himself out. Go Away Hillary!!

Yeah, Clinton, the candidate of change, hoh man. Try piling on something novel, like some of the voter''s issues and concerns. She''s been piling throughout her campaign alright...moose manure.
