Huckabee vs. "Them"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

MONTGOMERY, ALA. -- Mike Huckabee's got a new campaign sign but he's not taking credit for it.

On one side, the usual: "I like Mike." The other: "Us versus Them."

"Can you tell me who 'them' is?" I asked at a press conference.

"I don't know," he said. He speculated the signs had been printed by the local Huckabee hub. "I've seen a few of them for the first time this week myself."

But on second thought, he said, "I think it's us against you," pointing his finger in my camera. "I think it's you, Joy, that we're against. You're the them." He laughed.

Me: "Seriously! You mean the media?"

"Nahh. You guys are okay, you guys are all right," he laughed.

Then, in a 180, he stopped smiling and deadpanned. "Except you. Everybody else is okay."

Huckabee was never anointed as an establishment candidate. He''s had to work overtime for every vote. The media in general has not been a friend to Huckabee (or Paul). Nor have radio heads such as Limbaugh, Hannity. Nor has the typically Republican-friendly Fox News. In the debates, Huckabee has consistently been given less time than the others. On the internet, debasing comments written by paid bloggers seem to be plentiful.

But there is something bigger going on here... SoCons are being hounded to vote for candidates who are in no way social conservatives. And there is a sizeable block of voters, myself included, who will under no circumstances do that, ESPECIALLY given the venom and misinformation directed at Huckabee by certain elements of his own party (I even include the RNC here, because I believe they sent out talking points in a coordinated attempt to derail Huckabee). There are some big wheels at work against Huckabee.

So, the "us" is this group of voters, however small, who won''t be swayed to vote for a candidate unless he supports and embodies our values. If Mike Huckabee didn''t exist, I might vote for "the Anointed One", but even so I would never vote for a poser like Romney, primary or general.

The "them" are those who pander for social conservative votes but actually disdain the social conservative agenda and %u201Cpeople like us%u201D.

Joy, I have enjoyed the gracious nature of your recent articles, and I don%u2019t include you in %u201Cthem%u201D.

The presidential candidates are heading towards the $1bn mark in campaign fundraising, shattering records as Wall Street and corporate America pump cash into a race that started ,early and has produced at least eight viable candidates.

That%u2019s very odd but interesting?

As Mike Huckabee spent less than eight million, I%u2019m wondering what is the vote buying cost ratio is?

Perhaps only once or twice in an American''s lifetime does a candidate for President of the United States come along who is genuinely honest and forthright. Ronald Reagan was one and Mike Huckabee is another, however, all the "powers to be" have banded together to destroy his chances at becoming our 44th President of the United States. Yes, "them" is the media, (conservative & liberal), the conservative talking heads,(Hannity, Limbaugh, Ingrahm), the Club for Growth and the Republican establishment which has been infiltrated by liberal wolves such as Mitt Romney, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, et.al.

Mike Huckabee is the only true conservative in the Republican race and the refusal of the status quo to back him will deliver our nation over to the Socialists in November and we, as a nation will begin the downward spiral into the fires of hell, unparalleled in American history.

I have personally written Mike Huckabee, urging him not to sign on with John McCain if the VP position is offered to him. Mike is a principled man and he should never sign on with a flip-flopping, back-stabbing liberal like John McCain. Perhaps Mike will be able to come back and fight another day for our country, if there be anything left to salvage.

Increasingly, Mike Huckabee is what Leadership looks like ( http://snipr.com/leaderlook ). He''s an adroit public speaker; he''s all about calling his listeners to "do something," to awaken them to their own empowerment, and summon them to action in order that "Main Street," and not "Wall Street," will prevail in guarding the values and beliefs upon which the Republic was founded.

Most importantly, Huckabee is ONE with the FairTax grassroots movement ( http://snipr.com/nextrung ). Romney''s recent WEAK response to FairTax questioning on %u201CThis Week with Geo. Stephanopoulos ( http://snipurl.com/stephanopoulosdebate )%u201D drew a sharp contrast between Huckabee and all other presidential front-runners who will not embrace it. Huckabee understands that what''''s wrong with the income tax can''''t be fixed with "a tap of the hammer, nor a twist of the screwdriver." That his opponents cling to the destructive Tax Code, the IRS, preserving political power of granting tax favors at continued cost to - and misery of - American families, invigorates his campaign''''s raison d''''etre. %u201CMain Street%u201D will have to demand ( http://snipr.com/scrapthecode ) that their legislators deliver the bill to Huckabee, if elected.

That was an interesting exchange. As a native Arkansan I''ve been really impressed with how well behaved Mike has been with the press. After a decade of nasty, personal (and highly entertaining) feuding with media of every political stripe here at home, I was sure he''d have a little more trouble swallowing the negative press. Those campaign signs are interesting, because if any words could sum up his term in the governor''s office it''d be "Us vs. Them", and the "them" was usually every newspaper in the state, especially the Republican Democrat-Gazette. Neither Republican or Democrat much cottoned to his abuse of his office in soliciting gifts and favors for himself and his family, and he never seemed to understand why. The barbs that were delivered to editors on the governor''s stationery... fun days.

He''s fortunate the other Republican candidates aren''t giving him too much attention right now. (It has gotten nasty with Romney and is bound to get worse.) If and when they do lay it on, I think the mudslinging Huck will wake up.

With 12 ethic charges, I can''t understand how Christian Conservatives can continue to believe Huckabee''s golden tongue. His No Amnesty pledges are just dishonest. One only needs to see Huckabees record and Mexican consulate expansion in his home state to to see his Pro-Amnesty positions.

2006: Supported President Bush''s immigration plan and claimed that opposition to Bush''s proposal were RACIST and that it WASN''T AMNESTY (Ralph Hallow,Huckabee Serious About Presidency, Washington Times, 5/17/06)

MELISSA NELSON, Associated Press, August 5, 2005
LITTLE ROCK (AP) Gov. Huckabee''s speaking out against a recent immigration raid at an Arkadelphia poultry plant EVEN THOUGH CALLS TO HIS OFFICE HAVE BEEN about a 1000 to 1 AGAINST his stance. Immigration officials arrested 119 illegal immigrants at Petit Jean Poultry after auditing the company''s records. Agents said many workers illegally purchased or stole U.S. birth certificates and Social Security cards, then used the documents to obtain ID cards, bearing their photos, from the state of Arkansas. http://www.alipac.us/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=631

He SUPPORTED DRIVERS LICENSES for Illegals and DENOUNCED a bill that would deny welfare benefits for illegals, as well, as require proof of citizenship to register to vote.
http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2005/01/28/News/316347.html

He constantly used Christianity as a moral excuse for disregarding laws. Romney''s life and record stands by his statements.

Joy Lin, You have been reporting a fair objective report. Unless you did something off the wall, I suggest you were just paid a complement. Mike called the Media OK, which is a way of being nice to them. they have been horrible and in my book, evil bought by the Washington elite! They are afraid of the truth coming to Washington and have pulled every trick in the book to stop Mike.

No Joy everyone in the media is not OK, but you have been great! That is what appears to be what Mike has said. Ask him.

We are all guilty of mistaking thoughts and actions of others at one time or another. But one clear fact has been, the media has done it''s best to stop the one true authentic candidate of the people we have had in a long long long time. You best pray that Mike wins, for the alternative is not pretty for our future as a Nation.

I find it interesting, that on the Laura Ingraham radio show earlier this week, that in the Fla primary, most Huckabee supporters had McCain as their 2nd choice. Romney being a two-faced liar, this is understandable. But yet, all the neo-con pundits continue to say that Huckabee is slowing Mitt. Personally, I think it is the other way around. I also take great pleasure that the very conservative Rudy(according to Hannity and buddies) is backing McCain. And obviously, Thompson was thrown in to detract SC vboters from Huck(I had always wondered why he was in the race. He obviously didn''t want to be there). And, I find it interesting that the most conservative of all republicans to run, Duncan Hunter, has endorsed Huck, but where is it in the press, especially when they try to hit Huck with illegal immigration.
Once again, and as much as they will protest the point, the press is trying to decide who is allowed to be president. Every election is the same. They have their darlings, and anyone else is either debased, pigeonholed or ignored. Unfortunately, most people in this country are to blind, or lazy or just dumb, to figure things out on their own.

Inevitability?
Could Superbowl Sunday be a foreshadowing to Super Tuesday and beyond? Don''t write Huckabee off just yet!

Wow, Romney people are something. Romney tells Gov. Huckabee to quit so he can win. How arrogant!!! Romney''s record would make Hillary Clinton proud. Romney, based on his record is very liberal. If you are a liberal, vote for Romney. If your conservative, Romney should be the last person you vote for.
