Caroline Kennedy Endorses Obama

In a New York Times op-ed Sunday, Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F. Kennedy, endorses Barack Obama:

"Over the years," she writes, "I've been deeply moved by the people who've told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama."

More: "I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved."

"I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans."

High Five to you, "sallywhan." I agree with you in that I do not hold the Kennedy''s in the same high esteem as my parents did in the 60''s.

Why? Because Uncle Teddy said so? He''s not my uncle.

You are so right, "bud28dy," endorsements do not influence me.

John F. Kennedy, a great American President is assassinated and we still don''t know his killers! Very hard to believe, very hard.

I don''t disagree with much of your post, with the slight problem that the people you cite as possibly being influenced by the endorsement are part of Hillary''s base-the over 65''s.

Reality check. I was born in 1980 and JFK and his children have about as much relevance in my life as Herbert Hoover and his kids. Maybe this endorsement might influence the Depends Diapers crowd who still live in the sixties (and some of whom probably still remember Hoover for that matter). Too most of us, long since dead Presidents aren''t really too important in today''s world.

We INDEED need a change in the leadership of this country; a BIGGER change than what we had in 1960! We need someone that will really make The United States a respected and admired nation around the world. We need someone that will change how the rest of the world perceives us and Hillary Clinton is that candidate! We need to show other countries a more peaceful and successful image of our nation and it''s citizens. We need to have a healthcare system that covers all Americans and is just as good or better than other nation''s healthcare systems. We should demand that our citizens be first in line for employment by American corporations instead of being placed aside because they outsource to other countries. The United States should set an example of what an accomplished nation is all about.

My question to realpatriot1 is if a woman is a dingbat because she votes for a woman candidate, then are african americans from south carolina dingbats for voting for Obama because he''s an african american, considering he got 80 percent of the african american vote in that state?!As for the endorsment of Caroline Kennedy;I respect her for being inspired when she listen''s to Obama''s speeches, and how that remind''s her of her father. But the realization is this,Obama talks about uniting the people of this great nation. It sound good, but how can republicans &democrat''s ever be united when they share so many differences?I am a democrat who is married to a republican, and all I ever hear is that democrat''s don''t care if we win the war,as long as we end the war,and that we support abortion rights and raising taxes, while republican''s are against those issues.I doubt if my marriage will last,so I don''t see the 2 parties uniting. As for President Kennedy he was the most inspirational president of this past century and he was a great leader whose life ended so tragically and much too soon. But he was prepared to be President,he had spent 14 years dealing with congress/senate.Obama is too inexperienced to end the war in Iraq, deal with national security issues or manage the bureacracy.Obama has bearly been in the senate for 2 years.I don''t support Billary,I support Hillary. She can take on the GOP in the fall& she has the message & experience to bring about change.

The fact is endorsements have been shown to have virtually no impact on a voter''s decision. That''s true even when a candidate who has dropped out of the race endorses one of the others -- their voters make up their own minds and do not follow their former candidate''s pick. The daughter of a long since dead President means even less. To those of us born since the 70s or 80s, JFK has no more meanning than Truman or FDR or Jefferson.

Endorsements, whether they be for Obama or Clinton or McCain or Romney are not going to mean anything in this election.

Why are the Billary supporters to venomous and hateful. If Caroline had come out and endorsed Billary they would be filled with GLEE. Instead they say endorsements don''t matter. Typical of sore losers. If endorsements dont matter then move on to the next article. Some people would rather divide America and will NEVER understand what I means to unite!!

Part 4

Okay, everybody''s over on the other pages so I''ll just contemplate out loud while I drink my coffee tee hee

I guess the naive view might be to think that Obama stirred in Ted inspired an idealism so great it moved him to look past politics and endorse hope. The cynic''s vies might be to think that Ted thinks he can get more payback by leveraging his name with the newbie. Maybe after all these years, he''s settled in somewhere in-between and does after all this time in Washington actually see somebody who reminds him of his brother and after all this time knows there''s nothing anybody can do to him to knock him down for speaking his mind. So there you go . . .

bud28dy, that''s so rude to say that somebody''s endorsement means nothing. An endorsement is after all just a public opinion. It''s not like she''s trying to run for President based on that type of a record the way Hillary is ;D

Anyway, the big shocker isn''t really that the Kennedy''s are more drawn to Obama - the shocker to me seems to be that they''re actually coming out publicly with their preference, don''t people agree? Like first Caroline and now Ted . . . the Clinton''s went to bat for him when he was facing a serious challenge to his Senate seat by none other than Mitt Romney and headlines by both Hill and Bill apparently helped put him over the top. Hard to know what went into the decision-making there, but I''ll bet there''s a story . . .

PS Wow does Caroline sure wrote beautifully though, gosh . . . no wonder people still yearn for the promise of the JFK years . . .

Caroline Kennedy''s endorsement means nothing. In this morning''s LA Times, it got a three sentence mention on page 26. Sorry but this is not news.

She is not an astute poitical observer, has never run for office, and really has never involved herself in public life to any great extent. Her only claim to fame is her father was JFK. Wow, some credentials. I am on the edge of my chair waiting to see who Amy Carter endorses. And Caroline isn''t even basing her comparison of Obama to her father on personal knowledge -- she was only about 6 when her father died. She actually said Obama seems the most like people said her father was. So she knows as much about her father as any member of the public. Wow, some endorsement.

JFK was an inspirational leader and Caroline Kennedy has every right to connect Obama''s message of hope with the inspiration her father provided a nation. The negative comments of Clinton supporters on this site seems to reflect a general effort of that campaign to denegrade anyone who supports Obama. Good luck with that and the claims of "false hope". "When has hope every been false?" Obama.

CBS4me3,

An empowered woman is one who will support the best and vote for her own self interest and, more importantly, the interests of her society.

A dingbat will vote for a woman just because she''s a woman.
