Edwards: Iowa's a "Dead Heat"

(CBS)
DES MOINES, IOWA -- Standing outside the “Main Street Express” bus inside the Polk County Convention Center, John Edwards kicked off an 8-day tour of Iowa telling supporters that it’s “crunch time” and urged them to caucus for him on January 3rd.
If you “stand up for me,” Edwards told the union-heavy crowd, “I will stand up for you.”
Edwards told the union-heavy crowd who interrupted the speech with”President Edwards” chants that “it is time for America to rise again.”
At a press conference following the event, Edwards told reporters “This [race] feels like a dead heat to me.”
“Among the three of us, it’s very close,” he said referring to Obama and Clinton. “What happened last time is the last three weeks there was a dramatic rise by me and I think by Senator Kerry. And you gotta believe there’s gonna be some movement these last three weeks.”
Obama just has too much racial baggage to overcome in America. Edwards will choose him for VP, and he can be president when he is only 55, but with a lot more experience.
Income disparity is extreme: The top 300,000 make more income that the bottom 150 million of American''s earners. The Bush administration provided additional tax cuts for these super wealthy in an amount that would essentially pay for universal health care. Over the past 20 years, 40 percent of income growth has gone to the top one percent while wages for the bottom 90 percent have remained stagnant. The need is to overhaul trade policies where the rules benefit multinational corporations and the super wealthy at the expense of working families.
John Edwards advocates comprehensive Smart Trade proposals that provide Americans with opportunity to believe again that their children will have a better life in the future rather than face a depressing decline. /
