New Giuliani Ad: I Transformed New York

Rudy Giuliani has released a new television ad, his first, called "Tested." It will begin airing tomorrow in New Hampshire.

In the spot, Giuliani says New York City, before he became mayor, was called "unmanageable, ungovernable."

"A large majority of New Yorkers wanted to leave and live somewhere else," he says. "It was a city that was in financial crisis. A city that was the crime capital of America. A city that was the welfare capital of America. A city that was in very, very difficult condition when I became the Mayor."

But when he left office, Giuliani says, "New York City was being proclaimed as the best example of conservative government in the country." As for New Yorkers, "Instead of being hopeless, the large majority of people had hope."

Concludes Giuliani: "I believe I’ve been tested in a way in which the American people can look to me. They’re not going to find perfection, but they’re going to find somebody who has dealt with crisis almost on a regular basis and has had results. And in many cases exceptional results. Results people thought weren’t possible."

The Giuliani camp also released a fact sheet to go with the ad to back up Giuliani's claims, with links to stories and quotes about New York City before and after his mayoral term.

Giuliani%u2019s bid for the nomination is ridiculous. He was mayor during a time of crisis and his incompetence as a leader was made plain for all to see. The idea that he is %u201CAmericas Mayor%u201D is an insult to intelligent Americans everywhere. The idea that he transformed New York is a perfect example of how arrogant and out of touch with reality he is and how little he thinks of the American people%u2019s ability to see the truth. That someone as unqualified as he is would go from being unknown to being The President of The United States simply because he was %u201Cin the right place at the right time%u201D is an affront to common sense.
