Study Shows that Boeing's Missile Defense Work Adds to Arizona's Economy

We wrote earlier this week of Raytheon's and Northrop Grumman's contribution to the recent successful missile defense test. Boeing is the prime contractor on the development and production of that system. Now Arizona State University has conducted a study that documents how much work the program brings to Arizona through Boeing's efforts. The press release is at MarketWatch.com. The study says that over $190 million is added to the state's economy through the contracts related to the program. The benefits include almost two thousand highly paid workers who pay state income, sales and local property taxes. Boeing work within the states generates over thirty seven thousand jobs directly and indirectly. This type of money is one of the reasons it can be hard to end or cancel a program as Congress desires to keep it going due to the economic effects on localities.
