Google Tests TV Show Search Service
Google has begun testing a TV programming search service as part of an ongoing relationship with the Dish Network, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
The service would allow TV viewers to search upcoming television show and Web videos using a keyboard rather than a remote control.
So far, "the test, which began last year, is limited to a very small number of Google employees and their families and could be discontinued at any time," the Journal reported. The Google search functionality requires installing a set-top box.
Two years ago, Google began TV Ads, billed as a more measurable and effective TV ad creation and brokering business.
The Dish Network search trial could be linked in to TV Ads, delivering the most relevant ads to each household based on its search profile, just as Google does with search-based Web ads now.
