Online Travel Scam Hits Texas A&M Students

COLLEGE STATION (AP) - More than a dozen international students at Texas A&M University have been scammed out of about $17,000 by an online travel service that promised to save them money.
The FBI is looking into the case but spokeswoman Shauna Dunlap tells The Eagle of Bryan-College Station there's little the agency can do to recover the lost money if it's true the operation is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She says credit card companies used by the students for their purchases may be able to provide some relief.
Students told police agents from the firm Jasmine Travel told them they were based in Forest Hills, New York and Los Alamitos, California.
Brazos Valley Better Business Bureau president Bill McGuire says students should have been suspicious when air fares were just too cheap.
