First freeze of the season arrives in North Texas, but rollercoaster temperatures continue

DFW sees first freeze as warmer weather briefly returns before another cold front

Over most of North Texas, temperatures reached down into the 20s Tuesday morning.

Graham got down to 19°. All these locations had already had their first freeze of the season. It seemed the only holdout in North Texas was the interior sections of the metroplex, where the urban heat island effect warded off temperatures below freezing until Tuesday morning.

Over the last 11 years (since 2015), DFW has logged seven years with that first freeze landing after the average date of Nov. 22.

We warmed up to the 50s on Tuesday afternoon. We'll be breezy and in the 60s on Wednesday.

The warm weather doesn't stick around; a cold front arrives Wednesday night. It brings a slight chance of rain Wednesday overnight into Thursday. There could even be a little sleet mixed in with this cold rain early in the day on Thursday, but nothing would stick to the surfaces. It will certainly lower the temperatures. We'll only be in the 40s for a high on Thursday with brisk north winds and wind chills in the 30s all day.

We'll recover quickly; we'll jump back to the 60s on Saturday before yet another cold front arrives. This one isn't very cold, highs slip down into the upper 50s before we start yet another run of 60s next week. The rain on Thursday looks to be the only rain in the forecast over the next 10 days or so. We get close to freezing again on Friday morning, but no forecast of below-freezing temperatures in the 10-day period ahead.
