First Alert Weather Day issued for Tuesday due to heavy rain and storms on major travel day
NORTH TEXAS – Most of North Texas woke up Saturday morning with temperatures at or below the freezing mark. DFW has logged only one freeze so far this season. It is late December, and only three other years have had so few freezes by this date: 1931, 1971 and 2021.
It will warm back into the upper 50s on Saturday, another typical winter day to mark the Winter Solstice.
Saturday is the shortest day, followed by the longest night of the year. Starting Sunday, the days will slowly get longer. By the summer solstice on June 20, there will be more than four more hours of daylight.
Some warm days are ahead, making for good weather for everyone traveling for the holidays. High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 60s on Sunday and Monday. The biggest story from the First Alert Weather Department is about Tuesday.
The day before Christmas is a big travel day, and the roads are likely to be wet for most of the day. Strong storms are possible, with brief heavy rain at times.
The rain looks to be around for most of the day as the front passes.
By Christmas morning, the rain will be to the east.
Another system will sweep over North Texas on Thursday, bringing more rain and possibly more impacts to holiday travel. Temperatures should remain higher than average into the new year.
