Your skin may look good on the surface, but something dangerous could be hiding beneath.

A local dermatologist is offering patients the opportunity to receive a free skin check and photoaging reading -- something of particular importance for those in their 40s and up.

"Things that you do in your 10s, 20s and 30s -- it all kind of adds up," said Dr. Carolyn Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with DermOne Dermatology Centers. "There's a reason why people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are going to see more sun damage and cancer."

Dr. Kim uses a UV blue light called Skinscope to look at damage hiding underneath the skin. She says if caught early, you can reverse the sun spots, premature aging, and even stop the threat of cancer.

"We can be really proactive...We can try to decrease some of the risk and turn back some of the clock just a little bit."

Skin cancer is 98 percent treatable, if caught early. Dr. Kim recommends getting a skin check yearly, especially if you have brown spots, fair skin, or burn easily.

Complimentary skin checks and skinscope readings will be available at the following locations:
