Dallas County Plans To Confiscate Guns From Abusers

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A new program in Dallas aims to keep guns out of the hands of accused abusers starting in the fall.

State and federal laws already prohibit domestic violence offenders from possessing firearms. But the county has had trouble tracking compliance, according to Judge Roberto Cañas. He oversees one of Dallas County's misdemeanor family violence courts.

Cañas has obtained a grant from the governor's office for the program. He also has the backing of county commissioners to move forward with the program.
