Break from the heat ahead in North Texas in time for Labor Day weekend

Storm chances end the week as cold front moves in to North Texas

We expect the hottest day for the next week to be Thursday, with highs around 97° and a heat index topping around 104°. A cold front comes in later in the day, and storms with gusty winds and small hail are possible.

We'll get some storms on Friday as well with the lingering front to our south and another disturbance coming down in the northwest flow aloft. The rounds of rain, clouds and northeast wind will deliver much cooler temperatures for the weekend.

The holiday weekend will have the best chance of rain arriving Saturday during the first half of the day.

There could be some rain around Sunday morning as well. Other than those two chances, the long weekend is looking dry and mild. Monday will be mostly sunny with highs just around 90 degrees.
