A Few Storms, Plenty of Heat

As of 2pm temperatures were over 100° at most locations across the metroplex. The Heat Index is high today because of high humidity:

We've had some storms start to develop to the west and northwest of Fort Worth. There is some lighting with these heat-busters as they drift slowly north:

These  formed along an outflow boundary that formed from a cluster of Oklahoma storms last night. This boundary will continue to help fire up some afternoon and early evening activity; we'll watch for the danger of strong downbursts with the storms.

Real quick on the second hurricane that threatens Hawaii; Hurricane Julio is currently a category two hurricane but weakening some. It is expected to pass just to the north of the islands over the weekend:

Now, back to our weather. Expect some hot weather this weekend as we continue with our 100° weather:

The storms chances are very small; we'll put in a mere 10% chance for some much-needed rain on Sunday with most of that activity to the east of the metro area:

Today makes the 8th time this year DFW has logged a triple-digit high. Compare the count with the last few years of 100°plus days by August 8th:
