GILMER (AP) - Two East Texas men have been arrested after authorities say they seized 37 dogs from a mobile home.

Upshur County Constable Gene Dolle says the dogs rescued on Wednesday were in poor condition and that three others were found dead. The men have been charged with animal cruelty.

Their identities haven't been released.

Dolle says the dead dogs were found torn to pieces. The recovered animals suffer from ailments such as hair loss, external parasites and malnutrition.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals helped extract the dogs and plans to take them to a facility in Mesquite.
