Parts of southern Minnesota under tornado watch Sunday evening
Severe weather is moving through Minnesota Sunday evening, triggering a NEXT Weather Alert until 1 a.m.
Some portions of southern Minnesota are under severe weather warnings as the storm pushes east. The Rochester area is under a tornado watch until 1 a.m.
The National Weather Service confirmed a short rope tornado touched down northwest of Fairmount along Interstate 90 around 7 p.m.
Storms moved through the Twin Cities starting around 9 p.m. The system will continue to weaken as it moves into western Wisconsin.
There is a possible NEXT Weather Alert for Monday night as scattered showers and storms continue.
Monday's round of severe storms is a 2 out of 5 threat for southeastern Minnesota and 1 out of 5 for the metro, but things could change depending on how Sunday's storms turn out. Those storms are expected to hit around 9 p.m. The worst of the threat, however, is shifting further to the south outside of Minnesota.
The systems are expected to drop 1 to 2 inches of rain, with 3 inches possible in some areas.
Things look to dry up by Tuesday afternoon. It'll be on the cool side through mid-week with highs in the 60s, but it'll reach the 70s again Thursday and Friday.
