Suspect charged in fatal shooting of 17-year-old boy inside home in Hampshire, Illinois

A suspect stood charged Sunday night after a teenage boy was fatally shot the night before while inside a residence in Hampshire, Illinois.

Hampshire police said around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the residence in the 100 block of High Street for a report of a shooting.

Arriving officers found a 17-year-old boy from Hampshire suffering from a gunshot wound, who died at the scene. His identity was not released. 

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.

Following the shooting, an investigation led to the arrest of Keyshaun Davis, 20, of Hampshire on charges of involuntary manslaughter, endangering the life or health of a child, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possessing a gun and ammunition without a Firearm Owners Identification Card.

The Pingree Grove Police Department, Gilberts Police Department, Kane County Sheriff's Office, and Investigators from the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force assisted in the response and investigation.

Police have not provided further specifics on the chain of events in the incident.
