6 dead, 27 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, police say

Man shot in eye in Little Village, police say

At least six people are dead, including a child, and 27 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago during the weekend, according to police.

The ages of the victims range from 5 to 48. 

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 33-year-old woman was driving just before 7 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 66th Street when she suffered a gunshot wound to her right eye. 

Police said an unknown suspect inside a black vehicle fired multiple gunshots in the victim's direction and then fled in an unknown direction. 

The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. 

Later in the evening, shortly after 10 p.m. in the 300 block of South Maplewood Avenue, two 38-year-old men were standing outside when an unknown man approached them on foot, pulled out a gun, and fired multiple shots at them.  

One of the victims was hit with multiple gunshot about the body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second was hit in the flank and was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Minutes later, around 10:15 p.m., a 30-year-old man was traveling in the 1700 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive in a vehicle when another man, who was traveling in a silver SUV, shot at the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was hit in the knee and was taken to Stroger in fair condition. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 10:55 p.m. in the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue, police responded to a person shot at a convenience store and found two men who had been shot. A 48-year-old man was hit multiple times in the body and was in fair condition. The second victim, 45, was hit in the back and arm and was in serious condition. Both victims were taken to Stroger Hospital. Further investigation indicated that the victims were struck by gunfire after a verbal altercation between two unknown men who exchanged gunfire.  
  •  At 11:51 p.m. in the 300 block of North Central Avenue, a 35-year-old man was outside when he was shot twice in the arm. The suspect fled the scene on foot. The victim was taken to Loyola Hospital in fair condition. 

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 12:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Harding Avenue, a 25-year-old woman was outside when she was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.  
  • At 1 a.m. in an unknown location, a 27-year-old man was outside when he heard shots being fired and felt pain. The victim self-transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. The victim was unable to provide further specifics of the incident.  
  • At 2:45 a.m. in the 6500 block of North Ashland Avenue, a 19-year-old man was outside when he was shot at by a suspect who was traveling in a white vehicle. The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition at St. Francis Hospital. 
  •  At 5:19 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Warren Boulevard, an argument between the victim, a 42-year-old man, standing near the sidewalk, and another man turned into a fight when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot at the victim, then fled in an unknown vehicle heading westbound on Warren Boulevard. The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the leg and the arm. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, initially listed in fair condition. 
  • At 7:13 a.m. in the 4300 block of West North Avenue, officers responded to the scene and found a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the leg. He was taken to Stroger in critical condition.   
  • At 9:12 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue, officers responded to the scene and found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the left leg. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 12:50 p.m. in the 5500 block of Indiana Avenue, a 30-year-old man was on the street when he was shot in the right hand by an unknown person. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.  
  • At 7:54 p.m. in the 6400 block of South King Drive, a 37-year-old man got into an argument with an unknown offender, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the left thigh. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 10:59 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Madison Street, a 44-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by an armed man with a handgun demanding his property. A brief struggle ensued, and the gun went off, hitting the victim in the ankle. The would-be robber fled the scene. The victim self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:16 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Stoney Island Avenue, a 21-year-old man walked into Jackson Park Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim said he was in a park when he heard gunshots and felt pain. The victim did not provide any further information.     

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 12:25 a.m. in the 3000 block of South Hamlin Avenue, a man, whose age was not released, told police he was in the alley when he heard gunshots, felt pain, and realized he was shot in the eye. The suspects fled the scene. Fire crews arrived on the scene to treat the victim and took him to Mt. Sinai in critical condition.
  • At 1:42 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Ingleside Avenue, a 24-year-old man inside a Kia sedan was approached by at least two suspects who exited an unknown offending vehicle. After an argument, the suspects shot at the victim. The offenders then fled in an unknown direction. The victim was hit in the back and on the leg, and was taken to the U of C hospital in good condition.
  • At 1:46 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Chicago Avenue, a 22-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle when he was involved in a traffic accident. An additional vehicle, not involved in the accident, pulled alongside, and an unknown gunman exited the vehicle and began firing shots at the victim, hitting him seven times in the chest. The gunman returned to the vehicle and fled the scene. Fire crews treated the victim and took him to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 2:59 a.m. in the 5800 block of South Maryland Avenue, a 21-year-old man walked into the U of C hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. He was unable to provide any further details of what occurred. The victim was listed in critical condition.
  • At 1:17 p.m. in the 4400 block of South Greenwood Avenue, a 5-year-old boy was inside an apartment when he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered at the scene.    
  • At 4:43 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Dante Avenue, a 17-year-old boy, while inside a residence, sustained a single gunshot wound to his head. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. A weapon was recovered on the scene. 
  • At 6:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Crystal Street, an 18-year-old woman was involved in an argument with a male suspect that turned into a fight. The suspect pulled a gun and fired in the victim's direction, hitting her in the abdomen. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. The suspect got into a vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.
  •  At 9:12 p.m. in the 500 block of West Roosevelt Road, officers responded to a walk-in person shot at Stroger Hospital. The victim told officers that he was walking outside when an unknown man approached on foot, pulled a firearm, and shot at him. The victim was hit in the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 9:42 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. The first victim, a man, 25–35, was hit multiple times in the torso and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead. The second victim, A man, 30–35, was hit in the head and was also taken to the University of Chicago in critical condition.
  • At 10:23 p.m. in the 7500 block of North Ashland Avenue, officers found a 32-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the mouth. The victim was unable to provide any further details. He was treated by fire crews and taken to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 11:48 p.m. in the 100 block of South Kilbourne Avenue, a 28-year-old man approached officers and told them he was shot in the right ear. The officers took the victim to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
  • At 11:58 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Superior Street, the victims, a 35-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, were outside arguing with another known man, who pulled out a gun and shot them. The 25-year-old man was hit in the body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died. The woman was hit in the flank and was also taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The suspect fled into a nearby residence, prompting a SWAT incident. The situation concluded a short time later when the offender turned himself in at the 15th District station. He was placed into custody, and charges are pending.

Shootings from Monday

  • At 12:15 a.m. in the 4600 block of West Polk Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot at the hospital and found a 23-year-old woman with a graze wound to the chest. The victim said she was in a vehicle when an unknown offender approached and fired a gunshot, hitting her, before fleeing the scene. 
  •  At 3:20 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Michigan Avenue, a 34-year-old man was in an apartment with a woman when an ex-boyfriend of hers kicked in the door of the apartment and shot the victim twice before leaving the scene. The victim was hit in the abdomen and foot. Fire crews treated and took the victim to the U of C in critical condition.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either case.
