Man taken to hospital after 12-hour SWAT incident on Northwest Side

SWAT incident ends after more than 12 hours in Irving Park

A man was taken to the hospital following a 12-hour SWAT situation on the city's Northwest Side on Sunday.

Chicago police said shortly after 6 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 4000 block of West Addison Street in Irving Park for an armed man who barricaded himself inside a residence. Police said the man was threatening to hurt himself.

One neighbor said they watched the commotion for hours.

"I was coming out of church and I seen on the news today that something was happening around my neighborhood. It's kind of nervous, scary to know like any day or any time, there's can be anything happening in your neighborhood," Luis Martinez said.

Addison Street was blocked off from Pulaski to Kedvale, and Addison Street buses were also rerouted during the standoff.

No injuries were reported. Police said one man was taken to a local hospital for observation.

Further information was not released.
