Rebel, an 8-month-old German Shepherd from Riverside, Calif., found himself with his head stuck in a hole Dec. 27, 2010.
The owner wasn't home, but a neighbor heard Rebel's cries for help after he got stuck.
"My initial reaction was, 'Wow, how'd he get in there?'" Riverside County Animal Services Sgt. James Huffman said. "And why is there a hole that big in the wall?"
One officer worked Rebel's head from one side of the wall while the other officer worked the dog's body on the other side. They held the dog's ears back to ensure he would not suffer during the rescue attempt.
After roughly 30 minutes of minor nudging, Rebel the dog was free once again.
