A delicate ribbon of gas floats eerily in our galaxy in an image released July 2, 2008, by NASA. The image, taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope is a very thin section of a supernova remnant caused by a stellar explosion that occurred more than 1,000 years ago. The supernova remnant, visible only in the hydrogen-light filter, was assigned a red hue in the Heritage color image.

Algae Attack

A little over a month before the start of the 2008 Olympic Games the venue for the sailing events in Qingdao has been invaded by a forest of algae. City officials say they'll need at least two weeks to clear the coastal waters, mobilizing 10,000 workers aboard 1,000 boats.

Displaced Dolphins
Boaters look on as dolphins swim in the Shrewsbury River Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in Sea Bright, N.J. The group of 15 dolphins, which have taken up residence in a river near the Jersey Shore, will be allowed to stay there through the July Fourth holiday weekend, even though a nearby fireworks display draws heavy boat traffic. Police patrols will enforce a perimeter around the dolphins throughout the holiday weekend.
