Women influencers grace 2016 Pirelli Calendar
The Pirelli Calendar is known for its sexual images of the world's top models.
Last year, the calendar included topless photos of Natalia Vodianova, Joan Smalls, Carolyn Murphy, Karen Elson and Isabeli Fontana. Gigi Hadid also made an appearance in an S&M inspired outfit.
This year's calendar has taken an entirely different route. It's not just about the long legs and the bare breasts this time: This year, it's all about the women influencers in the world. The calendar is filled with powerful women who are leaders of the pack, like Serena Williams.
Famed photographer Annie Leibowitz shot for the calendar for the first time. This year, the calendar featured women like Amy Schumer and Yoko Ono.
"I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something," said Leibowitz. "I wanted to make a classic set of portraits. I thought that the women should look strong but natural and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio. This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward."
Other models this year included "Selma" director Ava Duvernay and magazine editor and actress Tavi Gevinson. The women of the calendar are of all ages, shapes and sizes.
