Why aren't you listening to Mother Mother right now?

(CBS) Mother Mother is a five-piece band from Vancouver with tight harmonies, intricate melodies and countermelodies and a sharp rhythm section. Drop what you're doing and listen to them right now.

"Born in a Flash" is an uncharacteristically slow song on the band's latest album, "Eureka." Playing at this tempo in pop music is a risk: Ever see an audience tune out when it hears a slow song it's not expecting?

Mother Mother avoids that trap by adding layers of keys and vocals to the song's basic structure, building in intensity and throwing in the occasional sound effect flourish. (This performance is from an appearance on Jian Ghomeshi's QTV in March.)

The band is led by singer-songwriter-guitarist Ryan Guldemond. His sister, Molly Guldemond, and Jasmin Parkin sing and play keyboards. They're backed by Ali Siadat on drums and Jeremy Page on bass. The band plays two shows in the Pacific Northwest over the weekend and has a mini tour of the East Coast scheduled in July.
