Watch the new "Man of Steel" trailer here

A new trailer for this summer's upcoming Superman film "Man of Steel" has arrived.

The three-minute video, unveiled Tuesday, begins with an infant Kal-El being sent to Earth by his father, Jor-El (Russell Crowe), as war rages on their home planet of Krypton.

"Goodbye, my son," he tells the baby. "Our hopes and dreams travel with you."

Growing up on Earth, the boy known as Clark Kent learns that his powers make him very different from everyone else. And young Clark desperately wants not to be different.

"Can't I just keep pretending I'm your son?" he asks Pa Kent (Kevin Costner).

"You are my son," he responds, choking up.

There are also glimpses of the evil General Zod (Michael Shannon) and reporter Lois Lane (Amy Adams), who wants to get to the bottom of who the heroic mystery man is -- and what his iconic suit represents.

"What's the S stand for?" she asks.

"It's not an S," he (Henry Cavill) responds, smiling. "On my world it means hope."

"Well, here it's an S," she counters. "How about...'Sup'--"

She's interrupted before she can say it, but we all know what "super" moniker she was suggesting.

"Man of Steel" is scheduled for release on June 14.
